Hail to the Hive!

Once more we are back in Leicester and are spending time at a few different mooring spots along the canl here where the canal and the River Soar collide. This little floating pontoon is at Friars Mill which dates back to 1794. Leicester was historically a place known for textiles and this building is a link to the historical past of the city. It's nice to see the city choosing to repurpose old buildings rather than demolish and build new. So much of the history of this city has been lost due to hurried demolition of old buildings to make way for ill thought out ugliness.

It has now been repurposed and from what I can gather is mostly office space but provides access to the floating pontoon for passing narrowboats such as our little narrowboat Badger.

It's not our favourite spot to moor up here in Leicester, that would be the castle gardens moorings, but it does have the advantage of having waterpoints conveniently located on the floating dock itself which come in really handy indeed!

The waterpoints were not working last time we visited in April so it was a welcome relief they were back in action upon our return to the city. Makes these little visits that little bit easier when you can have a wash and make a coffee
