Hail to the Hive!

My plan this morning was to get up at the crack of dawn, climb onto the roof and launch the drone to catch the morning before the sun rose above the mountains. I was a little late unfortunately 😔. So I will have to attempt that tomorrow or the next day now.

But seeing as how I was up and had the drone all ready I launched the bird from the back yard instead of the roof to get some early Christmas morning shots of the area before the day heated up. The morning misty effect was quite good and the morning had a very quiet feel to it as I guess most folks were busy eating breakfast and opening presents.

Considering I wasn’t on the roof and was surrounded by trees I was impressed at the distance I got and will be looking forward to testing the range from the roof in the next days to get those sunrise shots I am really after.

I do enjoy exploring the neighborhood from the air, it’s interesting.

These shots where the sea is in the distance and the morning mist is rising I particularly like. This one from one side of the housing scheme.

And this one further forward at the end of the road.

It’s very easy to lose track of time as you buzz about changing altitudes and angles and when the battery alarm started to sound I was so absorbed in taking photos I had lost my orientation a little bit and had to watch the distance reading to see if I was flying in the right direction home.

I had flown a little further than before and in another direction and was happy to see the numbers coming down indicating I was getting nearer and not further away, which with the battery alarm bleeping away was a relief.

Soon back over familiar turf I laused for a few more cheeky shots and then brought the bird down reading the ‘ battery life critical’ warning ⚠️ which had my heart pumping a little as I landed in the nick of time.

All in all a nice little Christmas morning flight in Jamaica all done before 7:30am. Ready for a coffee now 😁.
