Hello to all you Hivers!

I am taking up the 30 day Blogging challenge set by tegoshei@tegoshei and pointed out to me by ybanezkim26@ybanezkim26. Today is Day 15.

Embarassing Story.

Many years ago when I about 14 my best mate Phils family invited me to join them on their family camping holiday to Cornwall on the south coast of the UK. This was an amazingly generous and nice thing for them to do and they also invited Phils younger brothers friend along as well. In hindsight it was a very smart thing to do as it meant the 2 brothers who were a couple of years apart would not fight with each other for the entire trip. Hats off to Brenda and Joe for being very cool.

As the car would be full with Brenda, Joe, Michael and his friend along with all the camping gear , Phil and I had to make the 14 hour journey by national Express Bus. This was an adventure in its own right for us and I still remember playing tunes on the back seat of the bus and generally having a great time with Phil. Now it was doublefold cool for me as I was being invited along on a holiday somewhere really cool but I also would not have to have a few weeks of the summer without my best mate.

So after a very long trip down to Cornwall from Leicester we were met by Phils dad at the bus terminal and taken to the camp site. Tired but really happy and excited. Phil and I had our own tent. His younger brother and his mate had theirs. Brenda and Joe had the awesome and huge master tent. Joe was an avid camper and over the years we would often borrow stuff from him and once joked that we were never robbed at music festivals as we were protected by the lord JAH! This was because Joe had is initials in large capital letters emplazoned on everything including the porta loo. Joseph A. Hackett. JAH RASTAFARI we would often joke.

The next day us 4 lads made our way into Newquay and set about having our beach fun and try and fail at surfing. phil and I realised that even though we were 14 if we "ditched" the obviously fresh face younger 2 we could actually get served in the pubs so this became a daily ritual. After Dinner at the campsite we would wander into town and then wait for the appropriate moment and leg it to be free of them and into a pub. So much fun drinking beer in the pub at 14 waving out the window and Michael and his friend who were unable to get in. haha. I still think it's funny today.

Of course at 14 we were not exactly seasoned drinkers but would consume manly sized volumes of beer often drinking 8 to 10 pints and blindly staggering back to the campsite. Once back in the tent there would be a bit of banter between us in our tent and the younger two in the other. It would naturally get a little loud and at night on the campsite the sound would carry. A voice in the dark said loudly from outside our tent " WILL YOU BOYS PLEASE BE QUIET PEOPLE WANT TO SLEEP". To which my young cheeky and drunk self retorted " WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?". The answer came " I OWN THE CAMPSITE" to which I again full of youthful cheek replied " Ah well I suppose that does make a difference" laughter from the other tent but we all fell silent and were soon asleep. Quickly in my case as I was hammered. You'd think that was the embarassing moment but you would be wrong. This routine carried on for the holiday with the campsite owner occasionally reminding us to be quiet as we would sling insults back and forth between the 2 tents in the dark.

Near the end of the holiday Phil and I after successfully ditching the younger 2 and getting ourselves messily and terribly inebriated made of wobbly way back to the campsite and our tent. Once inside the usual back and forth between the 2 tents began. Now I actually didn't hear the words that were said loudly from outside the tent by the adult in the dark but this didn't stop me without any hesitation in my drunken state from shouting "WHY DON'T YOU JUST FUCK OFF?!" I then saw the look of shock on Phils face in the lamplight and heard muffled laughter from the other tent. "what?" I said to Phil. Phil said"you just told my mum to fuck off!" I said "oh shit I thought it was the owner". I sobered up pretty quickly in shock. Brenda had merely said "GOODNIGHT BOYS!" to which I'd responded with "Why don't you just fuck off". This to lady who'd kindly invited me on holiday with her family and cooked and looked after me as one of her own. I was mortified.

The next morning I dare not leave the tent. Phil went and had breakfast and came back. He was loving my awkwardness. No longer mr cocky I was ashamed and subdued. It must have been easily 12:30 before I ventured out for a cup of tea. Joe and brenda were there. They were really cool and playfully asked me" good night last night?" I , in massive shame just said with my head down " errr I can't really remember anything about last night too many beers" they playfully smiled not holding my stupidity against me. I have mentioned this a few times to Brenda over the years playfully still apologising as I have to admit I cringe thinking back as the memory washes over me as I told one of the nicest sweetest, kindest ladies in the whole world to fuck off. All credit to those wonderful parents as they did then and always have treated me as one of their own. Their compassion and understanding a continual lesson to me even now.
Phil remains my best mate 36 years later and was best man at my wedding also. Some things endure

So there you go one of the many thousands of embarrassing moments in my life.

Hope you also had a good giggle at my expense.
