Aber weißt du was?

English Version

The other day, I was fulfilling my duties as a district councillor again. I came across a joint motion from the left-wing factions addressing the topic of "solidarity". A motion requesting that we, at the district level, show our solidarity with all people—above all, with refugees and those with differing views.

But you know what? Most of the time, tolerance and solidarity stop the moment it affects the citizens right around the corner. Years ago, when a "Vinzidorf" (housing project for the homeless) was established in my neighborhood, there was suddenly no sign of tolerance. That was exactly around the time Conchita Wurst won the Song Contest and we were all supposedly so incredibly tolerant.

Honestly: If you demand solidarity, lead by example and live it yourself! But don't force others to conform with the entire world. If you want to dedicate your time to people in need, then do it. They will thank you for it, and yes, sometimes it is absolutely necessary.

However: Practice what you preach instead of just demanding it from others.

On June 13th, thousands of people once again marched "the other way around" the Ringstraße, demonstrating for the human rights of all groups. Everyone was represented, from children to pensioners. From gays and lesbians to people like me. In changeable, partly fantastic weather, many marched through the city to the sound of music, had fun, and it was a completely peaceful demonstration.

You don't have to approve of everything, and you are welcome to avoid the Ringstraße on that day. But true tolerance and solidarity mean accepting it and letting it happen once a year. I think it's cool that the city of Vienna is sending a clear signal here. That's why I joined the party crowd, danced along, and filmed.

The video of the parade will be online on my channel this Saturday, June 20th, at 5:45 PM. You can find the link right below the post in the comments!
