The Mézesvölgyi Summer Festival started in Veresegyház with a very good premiere on Saturday evening. To the delight of musical fans, the Veres1Theatre team expanded their repertoire with another musical performance.
The musical Women on the Edge of Nervous Collapse was based on Pedro Almodovar’s film, which won several awards that year. Here in Veresegyház we can see the play directed by Csaba Tasnádi. Anyone who knows the film doesn’t have to tell the story, but this stage version is much more humorous. Latin music, though, adds extra charge and color to the whole performance.
The story is short: Pepa leaves her lover, Ivan. As he tries to find the man, fate loves his former lover's wife, his secret son, and his bride. Meanwhile, a girlfriend is looking for you with an uncommon problem… Unexpected twists, serious yet funnyly served, sometimes absurd situations, pleasant Latin music, with good lyrics and of course lots and lots of laughter in the auditorium. Although by title we would think it’s a girly piece, it’s by no means just for women. In fact, the men sitting in the auditorium could be heard laughing countless times.
Already at the sight of the scenery, we can feel that even serious things will be served humorously here. Colorful, cheerful, unusual background, to which the colorful costumes fit perfectly. I liked this imaginative solution to visualize different locations with moving scenery elements and walls. (especially the bed, taxi and motorbike) The dancers were given an important role in arranging the stage image, as they moved the set throughout the performance. Catchy Latin music is accompanied by a vibrant, swirling choreography that can draw the viewer with it. And the text of the lecture is written in such a way that it not only dampens the weight of serious things and problems, but even laughs at it. The actors here now I think have a great sense of the rhythm of the play. Somehow every sentence was so in place that we laughed in unexpected moments. There are no three favorite scenes here right now, it was all good. Gyöngyi Molnár's telephone scene, and when he talks to Veronika Nádasi at his apartment, the conversation between Janza Kata and Lotti Kovács about the lawsuit, Enikő Zorgel as housekeeper, Balázs Nagy as a taxi driver and a kind of storyteller, Mátyás Dósa and Edina Csáki but then I would shoot humorous scenes. And in the field of songs, those who regularly go to the theater can already guess from the cast that this performance cannot be disappointing in terms of vocals.
