My dad was born in 1941 at the beginning of World War II. I remember his mom telling me about buying war bonds when my dad was a baby. That was a different time. It was a time when the people actually held the wealth of the country. So, when war broke out, the government needed help paying for it. There were rationing and war bonds. More than 85 million Americans — half the population — purchased bonds totaling $185.7 billion. About 10% of those bonds went unclaimed.
So what changed? The US is still fighting wars today. Hell, Donald Trump claimed to be anti-war and he can’t stop them. So, where are the war bonds? How is this being paid for? Why aren’t we rationing?
Wars are now financed by making more currency and then spending that currency on war stuff. The government isn’t going to ask for the people to buy war bonds because they stole the wealth from the people long ago with currency creation.
Don’t get me wrong. The people were getting scammed by the government in the good old days too. Remember rationing? That was happening. However, the US was not giving all that stuff to the war effort. They were selling it for real money – gold. US gold reserves skyrocketed during the world wars and the people went hungry.
War bonds are gone because the wealth has transferred to the elites.
You might get some of that wealth back by investing in gold, silver, and bitcoin.
