The temple nearby has a paddy field and recently they harvested rice grains but nobody wanted the hay. So, the priest asked us if we wanted it since we have cows. We were unsure at first because it is a huge lot and would cost a neat sum. The temple folk said that they just wanted to be rid of it and we could pay them at our leisure. That was why we decided to buy it.
The hay was brought to our place and we started drying it under the sun. By this time, some of the hay was sweating and starting to go bad and by night there was a huge downpour of rain. We tried to stack as much as we possibly could under the sheets but some of it got wet.
Today, thankfully, our neighbor came around and helped us dry it. It is now ready to be piled as a stack in our shed.
I think it was a good idea to buy the hay because if it does not rain for a few months and summer is harsh, the grass would soon finish off and the cows would be left hungry.
The bad thing is my hands were left with scratches because I am allergic to it. Now I am ok after washing it with some soap and then applying calamine.
Have you visited a farm? If not, you should do it. It is not an exotic location or getaway but on the farm, you will get to know how hard it is to produce food and the work behind it all.
Farms smell of the mud and grime and sweat
but the hard work and labor is good for the body, mind, and soul
