I once had a dog, I think that sentence makes it sound like I have some fond, lifelong relationship with dogs, like I grew up surrounded by them and have always understood why people become emotionally attached to them. Mehn, no, i had a dog, but that experience taught me something very important about myself, i am not a dog person. . They are energetic and unpredictable and somehow always seem to be doing something. One minute they are sitting quietly, and the next minute they are running around like they have just received breaking news from another continent. Its like having a baby in the house, i am not ready for that.

I like my pets to not pose a threat to me and i guess that is why I am much more of a cat person. Ive read so many times of dogs going berserk and attacking their owners or passerby's. Cats just seem to have a different approach to life, they resonate wtih me alot, they are chill, cute, relatively quiet and, most importantly, clean. They of course dont seem to understand personal space but they don't constantly need you to acknowledge their existence, and they are perfectly comfortable just being somewhere near you without demanding that you always look at where they are or if they are attacking someone.

That sounds much more like my kind of relationship, i think that is one of the biggest differences between dogs and cats. Dogs often feel like they want to be your best friend every second of the day, until the day they arent, and you have to keep trying to assert your dominance over them, every time if not they can be unpredictable and attack you. Cats seem perfectly happy to coexist with you.

Cats don't really even care about you all that much. Lol!, they can spend half the day doing absolutely nothing, suddenly decide it wants attention, come over, sit beside you for a while, and then leave as if it has another appointment somewhere and sometimes just rub their body on you and walk around your feet or even walk with you. I love cats! but cats also have this strange combination of being adorable and slightly arrogant. They can look incredibly cute while simultaneously giving you the impression that they are judging every decision you have made since birth.

Also as ive said earlier cats are very clean, I like clean things. I don't want to constantly be worrying about an animal getting itself dirty and then bringing all of that dirt back into the house. Cats, for the most part, take care of themselves. They groom themselves, clean themselves and generally seem to have their own personal hygiene routine but there is, however, one thing about cats that I find absolutely hilarious. They hate water, here is an animal that is obsessed with being clean, spends a considerable amount of time cleaning itself, and yet somehow treats water like it is one of humanity's greatest inventions against its existence.

My experience with having a dog wasn't terrible. In fact, I understand why people love dogs. They are loyal, affectionate and incredibly attached to their owners. For many people, that is exactly what makes having a dog so rewarding. It just wasn't for me. I don't think every animal lover has to love every animal. Sometimes we naturally connect with certain animals more than others, just as we connect with certain people, environments and personalities.
