I was 9 month pregnant and my gynecologist wanted to confirm everything is alright before I could go and admit myself in the hospital for a c section delivery. I, my husband and my mother waited in front of the doctor till the nurse made the blood report that I had given samples for. The doctor meanwhile was explained to us that he doubted that I was anemic and that would mean the delivery could get complicated and needed blood handy. He enquired about my blood group and when I told him it was O ( negative) we all saw him roll his eyes.

My husband and mom were for some reason confident that I was absolutely fine and there would be no complications and assured the doctor that I was not anaemic. The doctor didn't look satisfied and that was the time when the nurse handed him the report and with a smile he announced, see it's 8 and my husband and mom with a broader smile told him, see we told you, wow it's 8.
My doctor was a man in his late 50's, the Colorado of his face faded as he saw the smile on our faces. He shouted at us asking if we realise what it meant. He said that the required level was 12 and that meant I am severely anaemic. We were totally oblivion to fact of the required haemoglobin level and when we saw that smile on the doctor's face, we believed that it was because it is all fine, but that smile was because the reports proved him right about his intuition.
The blood was arranged, but thankfully we didn't get to use it. This happened 10 years ago at the time of my first son's birth and me, my husband and mom still joke about it.
