Dele being my best friend and confidential friend has been good to me as I used to visit him whenever I have my plans to be executed, what I used to do is to go to him and seek his opinion on that thing that I'm planning to do. Although, it's that I cannot handle my case and plan by myself, but one thing is that, seeking Dele’s opinion is what I have been used to in my entire life.
There was a day I walked up to him and told him about my plan of getting a plot of land. I told him saying,
“Dele, someone from our street asked if I'm interested in getting a plot of land from our area and I'm thinking of getting it.” “Wow! That's good,” he exclaimed. “Thank you,” I replied. “The only problem I'm seeing here is that people cannot be trusted when it comes to land issues and I wouldn't want you to be duped,” he said.
Immediately he said this to me, my heart began to shame as I have previously heard people saying what Dele had just told me. So, I began to have a rethink in my heart as I would not want to lose my money to fraudsters and just because of this reason, I decided on the same spot not to get the land and I told Dele saying,
“Dele, thank you for your word of advice, I don't think I will be getting the plot of land again, I have once heard about people being duped by land speculators in the past and I would want to be duped of my hard earned money, once again, thank you so much.”
So, after our conversation, I left his side and I was happy for his kind and thorough advice, on my way home, I was happy that I had not fallen in to the trap of Alhaji Owonikoko who had introduced me to buying the land, although, I have known this man, I mean the Alhaji Owonikoko as a good man with integrity even before I met him in person, but the saying that there's no more good man in our society aided me into doubting his integrity and since my trusted friend had given me his advice, I didn't even think twice than to believe him and doubt the integrity of the man, Alhaji Owonikoko.
However, as time went by, things began to unfold itself to me and I realised that not everything is believed to be accepted or taking hook, line and sinker from people no matter how tested and trusted they might be to us, not only that, no matter how that your friend is being closed to you, try to doubt his or her decision once in a while.
So, after a few years of putting my life and my trust in the hand of Dele, something happened. On a particular day, Dele told me that he's going to be moving out of his rented apartment to another place. When he told me this, I was elated and this was because I believed he too can trust me with his life. So, I asked him,
“Where do we meet?”
Immediately he got my message, he replied and said,
“Let's meet at the new garage at 2pm.”
After he had said this, I went to my boss at work to take permission and thank God, the woman didn't hesitate as she granted my permission.
Immediately she had granted my permission, I went back to my office to pack my things and set out to our meeting point. It's on my way that I called him that I was in my way.
So, he told me that he's very close to our meeting point. So, when I got to our agreed point of meeting, I met him there and when we saw each other, he said,
“Sam, I have just got another place and I want you to assess the place for me.” “Okay, I will do as you wish, “ I replied.
I was happy that he's chosen among all our friends to come and check out his new apartment. Well, it's not surprising to me as I have always chosen him ahead of others as well.
So, we didn't waste our time as we set out on the journey, but as we are going, I realised that where he was taking me too was a little bit far and that was how I began to ask him how he would prefer to rent an apartment in a far place like this, but he would not even open up and what he told me was that, he liked a serene environment where he would not be disturbed.
After a while, we got to a well built house which was about 90% completed and as we alight from his car, he told me that we are passing through the house to the place he had got as his new apartment and as we got into the house, he paused and turned his face to me telling me that,
“Sam, this is what the Lord has done.”
I couldn't believe my ear when I heard him telling me this as I was shocked. I was shocked as I couldn't believe that someone in had always trusted my life and plans with could hide such a big project from me, but I couldn't react negatively to what had happened so as for him not to be seeing me as his enemy of progress, what I did was to congratulate him and wish him well.
However, ever since then, I have always kept my plans with me and with that, I have been able to achieve so much with plans as no one would stop or discourage me from going ahead in doing those great things I had wished to do for myself.
We are still friends, but I have set the boundary which is really helping in the journey of my life and I'm really enjoying myself.
