Greetings!
Power is corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. One thing that we should all know is that power is toxic and if anything is to be go by, no one should be trusted with power, even if the level of the power is little and this is because, once people get power, they become a changed person and it's until they lose that power that they remember their mistakes when they have the power.
Having said much about power and how people get carried away with power, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt in the Hive learners community which is all about, “Power.”
Power like I said earlier is something that can corrupt people easily, so, if care is not taken, it can corrupt anyone no matter who the person is. For someone like me, I have experienced power in the hand of my former principal at school. This woman just because of his connection with people in the corridors of power exercised her power over every member of the staff and this was because she could not be challenged as everyone feared what could happen if she was challenged.
This woman would make sure she queried you for any offence even if you are not found guilty of the offence and even with this, nobody dared challenge her just because of her exercise of power, the only thing one could do was to grumble behind her.
Aside from this, she would insult the members of staff anyhow and you dared not talk back to her. The last person that dared her was punished for a month with her salary being withheld for like eight months before she was pardoned by the principal. The woman would have even been fired by the powers that be who the principal had connection with if not for the much pleading from the affected woman.
What I'm telling us here is how powerful my former boss was before her retirement a few months ago. Also, whenever there's any information from the ministry, she would not let us know as she would block us from getting the information most especially on anything that has to do with the promotion of the staff members. Thank God we all have friends in other schools. It's these people that used to keep us updated whenever there's any piece of information which is meant for us.
And per adventure we get the information from any other source, she would still not sign if her signature is needed for the exercise.
That's how powerful she was back then when she was my boss at work, the woman single handedly cancelled all religious activities in the school and she even blocked all of us from being transferred to another school. She was so powerful that those who were supposed to deal with her were even afraid of her.
However, what she could not do with her power was that she could not extend her retirement date further. Although we were told that she has done that for like two times, but this time around, she couldn't as she had no enough strength in her again. So, she retired and we refused to celebrate her like we should do and now that we now have a new boss who is not as powerful as the former boss, we are now enjoying the rest of our lives.
