Greetings!

One thing that has characterised our society in recent years is crime. Crime or criminality has become part of our society and I don't think it's abating anytime soon and this is because it's not a thing now but something that has been in existence right from the time immemorial. Even there's biblical references to acts of criminality, but that's not actually where I'm heading to today.

Having talked so much about crime and the people in the society, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt right before me in the Hive learners community which is all about, “Justice.”

Like I said earlier, crime is one thing that has been in existence right from the creation of heaven and the earth and the way it's being managed has never been a problem to those in authority. Those in power have their way of managing crime in the society and maybe that's why they have in place the prison system where those who commit one crime or the other are taken to serve their own form of punishment according to the weight of their crime.

This kind of thing is one thing I so much love and have interest in most especially while growing up as I believed it's a way of punishing the offenders which I believe would help to change them from being a bad person to someone better in the society.

However, one thing that I have noticed so far about this kind of a measure is that it has not worked according to what it's been designed for. Instead of it working as expected, the reverse is the case and to me, it's even making the rate of crime in our society to be on the increase which to me is very bad.

Although it's one of the best ways of correcting the wrongs in society, to me, it's not really working as people who have gone through this system were seen to come out even worse than they have left the society before their conviction.

One of those guys once told a friend of mine that in the prison, they form a deadly gand and once they are out, they start terrorizing the society again. He said this is due to what they were being subjected to right there in the prison.

So, if we should look at this system as not working, I personally would advise that instead of them, I mean the criminals being punished, I would rather suggest that, not everyone of them should be punished and if at all they would be punished, they should be punished according to the weight of their crime and everything should not be left to punishment alone, but also, rehabilitation after punishment should also be considered.

If this should be done, I believe the society will become peaceful as people who have committed one crime or the other would have been corrected accordingly. Also, I would suggest that those affected in the society too should be compensated so as not to feel cheated.

This is my entry to week in the 241, episode 01 of the weekly featured contest in the Hive learners community.

Thanks for reading.
