Greetings!
One thing about children is that, they are God's heritage and for them to be the heritage of God, they must be well taken care of.
Children like I said are the heritage of God and taking good care of them should be our priority in life. They are the gift from God that should not be joked with nor taken for granted, but these days, the reverse is the case as most of these children are not being taken good care of by those that are to take care of them.
Walking through the street in my area and even as a teacher, I used to see many kids being mistreated by their so-called parents and not only that, by their said guardians.
Just this week, while going to work early in the morning, a parent was beating her son of about 8 years of age for not helping her to hawk her prepared cold pap. When I saw this, I was sad and this was because of the treatment meted out to this young boy who was supposed to be on his way to school.
Also, even at my place of work which happened to be school, you will see students coming late to school without a genuine purpose and if asked about what led to their coming late to school, their answer would be nothing to write home about. Just a few weeks ago, one of them came late to school and I asked him as to why he didn't dress up early for school. What Sarah told me was that her mum was the one that delayed her from coming to school early. I asked her as to why she was delayed, she said because she refused to help her bathe her younger ones.
So, this and many other incidents have been the perceptual occurrences in my local community here in Nigeria and instead of this to be dealt with by the government and those in authority by putting in place the child services agency that would look into all these act of child abuse, nothing has really not been done as to do and this has really left many to believing that nothing can be done to stop this deadly and evil acts.
Though, I have heard of some non governmental agencies coming in to intervene in such matters as to the maltreatment of children in our society, but even with all the effort being put in place by this NGO'S, nothing tangible has been achieved. Maybe this is because of the lack of sensitization or proper orientation from this organization to the populace. Though they are trying their best, but not at the level at which the developed countries are currently operating.
Also, I heard not long ago that my state is planning to create an agency to that effect, but nothing has been heard about that, or let me say, maybe the agency is only working on paper and not in real life. Though, we have some private individual fighting for the right of the children in our society here in Nigeria, but at the same time, the way they fight for these children cannot be compared to what would have been obtained if it were to be the from the child's services organization, which supposed to be put in place by the the government or those in authority.
So, child's services in my country has not really been working or let me even say that, they have not been in place at all and this is really affecting the security of life of the children population in my country and I believe it's high time thing were put in place as regard the child services for the security of every child to be guaranteed.
