It does not matter how many times you have been knocked down in life, as long as you are willing to give life another trial, then it was never a knockout. Challenges will definitely come to you, but how you respond will determine your fate. If you fail at an attempt, it is not because you cannot achieve it, but you only need to try again, or try differently. You only become a failure if you have refused to give life another shot on target. Falling does not make one a failure, but remaining at the very spot that you fell is what makes one a failure.

Being faced with challenges is normal and usual, and there is nothing bad about it, what becomes bad is yielding to the challenges and conceding defeat. No one can make you a failure until you have willingly chosen to accept that status. But if you refuse to accept that you are a failure, then you will live above it, irrespective of how many times you have failed. You will be surprised that a lot of people that have succeeded did not do so at the first attempt that they gave, a lot of them had to go through one or more failed attempts and they had to try again (or more times) to hit their target.

You may not have had a choice of what led to the first failed attempt, but you have a choice of either allowing it to define your future or moving past it. As a matter of fact, some successes come as a result of some failed attempts. This is why, more often than not, failure is also part of what makes the "success story" glorious. Obviously, when you make an attempt towards something and the result was not as successful as you had intended it to be, or maybe it was failed, it will definitely teach you some lessons that will make the next attempt to be far better than the first one.

The only thing you can consider a failure is the situation that does not teach any lesson at all. As long as there is something to learn from it, then all hope is not lost - at least you can try again. In life, you should learn that failure is never the final result if you can try again. I once watched a friend perform an experiment during our days in school. At first, the experiment seemed unattainable but it did not deter him. He tried and kept failing to arrive at his proposed result. Even when most of his friends were asking him to choose another experiment because they believed that the one he was involved in was a miss, it did not dampen his spirit. At that point, I saw a strong desire in him to succeed at the experiment, then I came and whispered the words of one of our teachers to him which said:

If you think it can be achieved, then give it all it takes and stop at nothing to see it achieved.

It was like the words sparked up some zeal within him and he replied "of course it can." At that point, he gave it all the required actions with no other option in his mind than "I can do it." Finally, against all odds, and through many trials, he was able to achieve his experiment and it marked a very huge milestone for him. This also taught me the lesson that everyone is absolutely responsible for their success or lack of it. This is; if you think you can succeed in life, then it is your choice and your actions will back it up for success to come. In the same way, if you think you will not succeed, it is also your choice.

The major part of what happens to us is not necessarily a function of what happens but how we have responded to what has happened. You may be faced with a situation in which everyone will think that it will be a failed situation, but it does not mean that you should think like everyone else. You can still be in the midst of that situation and succeed at it. But for this to happen, you need to first have a change of mindset. Successful people are not necessarily those that have not failed in life before, but those that their mindset is far above the realm of failure, and are constantly thinking success, which makes it easier for them to keep trying until success is achieved.

However, one thing to know is that how you try after you have failed is also very important. Obviously, you cannot try the same way and manner that you did the first time that you failed and hope to succeed, it does not work that way. If you must have a different result, then you need to try out an entirely different format or method, then you have to prove it by trying differently.
