Many time, we may be beclouded by the pursuit of what we want to have but fail to be grateful for the things we already have. No matter how bad you may think your situation is, there are many people that your situation are far better than their own, so you do not have any reason not to be grateful. The truth is, you may not have gotten to your final destination but you are making considerable progress and for that you need to be grateful.

Expressing gratitude, most times, is like a seed you sow. I remember what happened a few weeks back. I did a particular favour for someone. The favour was not that much but the way the person appreciated it was amazing. The next day we met, the person also referred to the favour in appreciation. Because of this, I was moved to even do more and bigger favour. You see, the later favour was as a result of the appreciation for the former favour. No wonder it has been said that:
Appreciation is an indirect application for more.
A simple "thank you" may look very small but you cannot underestimate its ability to open wider doors. It does not take anything from you to express your gratitude but you will stand to gain bigger things. If you know that gratitude is gainful, then simple wisdom should tell you that you need to have it handy.
As a person, you will agree with me that when you do something for someone and the person sees it as a right and does not show gratitude, you will feel withdrawn to even do more for the person but when the person shows gratitude, you might go an extra mile to add to the initial favour. One of the things that make people to overlook showing gratitude is the feeling of "it is my right". Well, just to let you know, it is only privilege because even life itself is not fair.
When you take a sincere look at yourself now, then compared it to where you were yesterday and where you started from, you will realize that you have many reasons to be grateful. The truth is; even if you have not gained much or have lost a few things, you did not lose everything - so you see, you can still use it as a reason to be grateful.

A particular popular adage in Nigeria says that: "your height will not reduce if you bow down to show gratitude". What this means is that you will not lose what you have by showing gratitude but you will gain more.
