It is weird to see someone starve to death but during the person's burial, food becomes surplus. Now I ask, why wait until the person is dead before you lift up a finger? It is true that people do not owe you anything, but as our humanity is concerned, whatever you want to do for someone, you should do it while they are alive, so that it can be appreciated. I mean, what is the point of doing something posthumously when you can do it for the person when it can be valuable and appreciated. This is why I believe that the best form of help you can give to someone is the one done in their presence.

In this part of the world, a lot of people value burial ceremony so much that they turn it into money-spending events. You will see someone spend millions on the event, for someone that never saw something like that while they were alive. I heard about a particular story that touched me so much. This was about a man who was staying in the village while his children were living massively in the city. That was not the major problem, but the problem was that they left him and were not catering for his needs. The man would work his heart out; from farming, to construction worker, to other hard labours, while his children were enjoying affluence.
As a matter of fact, the friends of the children did not know that someone close to them would be living in penury because of how they threw money around and impress others with gifts. To make it worse, they have built houses in the city, but their father was staying in a house with leaking roof, which normally worsens during the raining season. Along the line, the father took ill and sent a message to his children. They all promised to come take him to see a doctor in the city but none of them came. He managed to get some drugs from the roadside medicine store but he did not get better.
After a few weeks of being ill, he passed on and when the news got to the children, it was then that they realized what they have done. It was like their eyes were opened to their errors. They were busy chasing after material things while they forgot their responsibility. They were concerned about growing up, and forgot that their father was growing old. Well, the burial had to be fixed and being the kind of people that already created the impression of affluence in the mind of others, they had to make it look very big to maintain their reputation.
The people that did not have house in village had to erect one in less than 5weeks because of the burial of someone that had died in poverty. When the day came, they contracted undertakers to make the event look big, and the remains was carried in a nice Land Cruiser Prado; for someone that never owned a car in his lifetime. How pathetic. Foods were in abundance, but one thing was very evident, the locals who knew the story of the man and how he was abandoned all boycotted the event. The only people that attended were those that came with the children. That was when everyone knew that something was actually not right. Now the question is; why did they not do all these while their father was alive?
The love you show to people can go a long way to affect their lives positively and this love should be shown while the person is bodily present with you. There is a feeling of joy that comes to the mind when you know that you have affected the life of someone positively.

Even when someone achieves something worthwhile, try to celebrate the person - give them a sense of belonging; make them see the benefits of live and give them more reasons to continue living. All these are part of what make us humans and they matter a great deal to our humanity. I believe it is better to celebrate love in someone's presence. This is why, even in your daily busy schedule, you should try to create out time to affect someone's life positively, while you also remember your family and friends. Remember, "you are" because "they are."
