There may be times when you would want to do something and a particular voice in your head will just be ringing to you how you will not be able to do it, or may even question your capacity and abilities. This little voice is the manifestation of self-doubt and if you give heed to it, it will be amplified. The truth you need to believe is that you are well able to complete a task that you have set your mind to, the complexity notwithstanding. Even if you are to do something you have not done before, or something no one has ever achieved before, it should not make you to doubt your abilities or lose your confidence. After all, everything starts one day, and you can be the first person to make it happen.

Before we look at how to put away or overcome self-doubt, we will consider the causes of it. Of course, it is the knowledge of a problem and its causes that will lead one to proffering a solution to it. One of the causes of self-doubt or lack of confidence is bad negative experiences from the past. For someone that has done something before, for example, and failed woefully at it, if the person eventually wants to repeat the same thing again, there will be a voice of doubt that may be ringing in their head - "what if you fail again?"
Another cause of self-doubt and lack of confidence is taking heed to people's personal opinion. Imagine you would want to do something and then, out of nowhere, someone comes out to tell you that you cannot do it, and even reminds you that no one has ever done it before or that you do not have the capacity to undertake it. All these words might begin to ring in your subconscious mind and may go a long way to discourage you and even make you to doubt your abilities. Weirdly enough, some of these words are unsolicited and may even come from the people that are close with you - friends, etc. However, you have to understand that the responsibility for your actions rests on your shoulders and not in their hands.
Now that we have seen some of the causes of self-doubt and lack of confidence, let us see how to overcome it. Firstly, you have to act promptly without relating your bad negative experiences to it. That you failed in the past should not discourage you from trying again. In fact, it should encourage you because, at least, you tried and you have gotten some experiences. So try again with the experiences and watch how things will turn out better for you. More so, you have to replace the negative thoughts in your head with some positive ones, so as to facilitate positive actions. When the thoughts of "you cannot" comes into your mind, quickly replace it with the thoughts of "I can." That is; instead of thinking limitations, think positivities.
On the same hand, do not bear the negative opinions of people to mind. Sometimes, the reason they are trying to discourage you from doing something is because they cannot imagine you achieving it. It may be sheer envy that you would achieve it and not them, so they want to use their words to discourage you. Each time such kind of people come to tell you how you are unable to achieve something, remind them that you can do it and prove it by doing it. Leverage on the fact that you have done something good in the past and have succeeded at it. If you can achieve a thing in the past, what makes you think that you cannot achieve something good again in the present? So go ahead and undertake the actions.

The next way to overcome self-doubt is to set targets that are achievable. There is nothing that can lower someone's confidence level as embarking on an obviously impossible mission. There is no point in setting an impossible target and lie to yourself that you can achieve it. You will just end up discouraging yourself and losing confidence in yourself. However, when you start with the easy goal and you achieve it, it will give you the confidence to move over to the next one, and with that, you can work your way to the difficult ones without losing your confidence.
