It is common to hear people make this kind of statement; "he is lucky" when they refer to someone that has made a considerable level of success. But what they fail to understand is that what they call luck is years of hard work that have prepared them for what lies ahead. If you have not prepared for the future, you will not be able to feature effectively in it. You need to know that the majority of what happens in the future is a product of what you do today, and not just a coincidence. If you want to get the benefits of what the future holds, then you will have to take relevant actions today.

You cannot live your life by chance and expect to maximise it. A lot of people are already doing what you are scared of doing. They are daring the impossible, taking risks and whatnot. When they eventually make it, it will be termed as "luck" without knowing the kind of labour that has already been put into place. Trust me, luck is very good, as everyone needs it. But it will make a whole lot of of meaning if it meets you working. You may not have everything it takes to take a step, but take it nonetheless, and you will discover that what you have is more than enough.
Everyday we live, new levels of opportunities are opened to us; but while others sit and wait for the supposed right time, others are already taking advantage of the opportunities. Two things about opportunities are; they will never wait for you, and they will not appear to be opportunities until you take actions. If you are waiting for opportunities to look like them, then you will wait for long. More so, a lot of opportunities that will make the future worthwhile are masked in challenges. You only need to look beyond the challenges to see that they are opportunities.
I once heard a friend discuss about how he started a particular business when he was posted to a village for his one year mandatory National Youth Service after finishing from the University. When he went there, he discovered that the village had just had a major light challenge as the only transformer there crashed. The locals already know that they will be without light for long because the government was not responsive. What the guy did was to send a message back home for them to waybill him his very small generator (which is normally called "I-pass-my-neighbour" in this part of the world).
By the time he got his generator, he constructed a little kiosk just in front of his house where he started a charging point. He had enough time because where he was doing his primary assignment, he normally went there 3 times in a week and closes around 1:00pm. So all the free times he had, he spent them in the kiosk and people would come to plug their phones and other devices for charging and he will bill them a small fee per hour. By the end of the day, he would accumulate some really good cash. He continued with the business and by the time he finished from his Youth Service, which was almost about the time the power was restored, he made so much money that he never had to touch his salary for that 1 year.
What others thought was a challenge was exactly what he leveraged on to make an opportunity out of it. If you cannot make good use of opportunities today, you may not be able to take control of your future. Trust me, your future is entirely as you have made it to be through the actions of today. Everything you do today can and will have effect on you tomorrow.

You will agree with me that the actions of yesterdays were among what created and formed today's results. In the same way, you have to be mindful of the actions of today, because they will determine the results of tomorrow. I will conclude with this statement that I once heard from one of my mentors, he said:
Today is like a seed, your actions are like sowing the seed, then the future is like the harvest. So plant the right action today and reap the right results tomorrow.
