A lot of people have been so engrossed in the pursuit of material things that they tend to overlook the very crucial thing that matters - their health. What is the point of getting the whole material things and losing your health? I Mean, how will you even enjoy it? What many people do not know is that health can also be considered another form of wealth. As such, care should be taken on our body and we must learn to practise self-care. This includes both the body, the mental health, the mind, etc. Here we shall take a look at how one can take care of themself.

The first point about self-care that we will take a look at is "rest." Hustling and tussling hard without finding time to rest is a very big risk. As a matter of fact, rest should be willing and timely. If not, the body will demand it unwillingly and it will mean that the person has already broken down. You have to know that resting does not mean laziness nor wasting of your time, but it means that you want to recharge yourself to become better productive. Try to take out time, maybe a leave, and stay off active work just to rest. You can even go with your family on a vacation and relax your body and mind. All these are what will count towards self-care.

The next way to care for oneself is by eating rightly. Good nutrition does not mean affluence. Of course, someone can get good food at cheap rate. On the same hand, someone can also get expensive nonsense in terms of food. So you do not need an abundance of wealth to eat right, you only need to be intentional about what goes into your mouth. Do not eat because you want to satisfy your cravings, but because you want to gain nutrition from it. You have to be careful about the kind of things that go into your mouth. You will be surprised how a lot of sicknesses can be reduced or even avoided by eating rightly. So eat right.

The next point is to engage in exercise. Some people's life revolve around office to home and back to office; no time for exercise. Trust me, a lot of ill healths can be caused by living a sedentary lifestyle. Exercise plays a very vital role in the life of an individual, not just in their body but in the minds too. Each day, make it a point of duty to engage in exercise - it might be a walk, jog, aerobics, etc. This has also been proven to help burn off excess fat and keep you in shape. More so, exercise also promotes good body metabolism, which everyone needs. You must not need to go to a gym before you exercise yourself - just a few minutes walking or jogging might do the trick.

Another way of practicing self-care is to avoid abusing yourself. This includes substance abuse, abuse in lifestyle, habits, etc. There are things that you will need to avoid in order to take proper care of yourself. For example; drug abuse can create more problems for an individual, so what is the point engaging in it and end up harming oneself? Some of these substance abuse, in addition to having an immediate negative effect, can easily be habitual and then end up having a catastrophic long-term effect. So it is better to avoid it totally than to try to stop it if it becomes habitual.

You should also beware of who you stay around; your friends, company, relationships, etc. If they are not adding positively to you, then you should stay clear of them. At this point in your life, you have to be conscious and intentional about your life. Anyone that constantly draws you towards what is detrimental to your health is not supposed to be your friend. Your friend should add positively, and not negatively, to you. So beware.

Still on the ways to practice self-care, we have to look at proper and timely medical checkup. There are some people that will not deem it fit to check their body from time to time until when they notice symptoms or when they are down. What they do not know is that for the fact that a symptom has presented might already be something more dangerous than might be thought. Through constant checkup, some of these medical issues can be prevented and dealt with on time. More so, it is far better, more convenient, and even more economical to prevent rather than to cure. The little amount you spend on checkup might prevent spending a lot on medical emergency.
