One of the major problems facing a lot of people in the area of finance is debt. As a matter of fact, there are some people that are so submerged in debt that it has become part of them. Well, the good thing is that, no matter how far you have gone in indebtedness, there will always be a way out. With determination, discipline, and taking responsibilities, one can overcome financial debt. Here, we shall take a look at the responsibilities that one has to undertake that will provide the pathways to overcoming debts.

The first and obviously the most important step to take towards overcoming debts is to create a financial budget that should guide your spendings. A lot of people run into debts because there is nothing to guide the way they spend money and they end up buying even what they do not need. With a budget in place, you will know how to spend and this will limit the events of spending on impulse. There are people that earn quite a substantial amount but have not utilized it well, and always see themselves in debt, simply because they have no budget and everything goes.
When you have made a budget and followed it, it will relieve financial stress. One should also note that your budget should fall within your income, not on imaginary money. After you have followed your budget and some monies are left, you can use them to pay up part of your debts.
Away from budgeting, you should also limit the way you buy what you do not need. It is true that, sometimes, our senses and emotions may want to convince us to buy something that we do not need, or even so, our friends or close ones may want you to buy a particular thing. However, if you know that you do not need it or that it does not fall within your financial capacity, you do not need to buy it on credit. Similarly, if what you want to buy has a cheaper substitute which you can afford, then nothing stops you from going for the substitute. For example; if you want to buy clothing and you cannot afford designers but there are the generic ones that you can afford, then you can go for them.
What to also take into consideration, in order to overcome debt, is your source of income: you may need to increase it. If your income is no longer enough to sustain your basic needs and you see yourself constantly running into debts, then the wise thing to do is to get a second source of income. Obviously, more sources of income means more more available and that will also mean less debts. A second source of income can come as a side hustle, a part-time job, an extra business, etc. As a matter of fact, heavily relying on just one source of income in this economy is not too advisable and may even predispose one to risk, including risks of indebtedness.
When you have gotten a complementary source of income, it is not for you to start "living large" if you still have some debts to pay off. With every income you get, you have to try to pay a part of your debt until you are totally free from debt. And when you are free, try to "cut your coats accordingly" to avoid getting back into debts. Even if you must borrow, it should not be in order to consume it on your desires, but maybe for investment and for production, so that you can use the dividends and the profits to service and pay off the debt.
One thing to always remember is that, more often than not, indebtedness is a choice that is linked to people's lifestyle. If you account size cannot support a particular lifestyle, it is pointless trying to attain that lifestyle by all means. You do not need to assume the lifestyle or who you are not. Otherwise, you may just end up putting yourself into financial challenges in the bid to live a fake lifestyle or to impress people or maybe because of what social media et al has projected to you. A friend once made a very witty and wise statement during one of our discussions sometimes ago; he said, as I conclude with it as an advice to help one to overcome debts:
Try to live within your size per time and do not try to live someone else's life.
