If you are too careful of oppositions, you may lose your right position.

The above words were used by one of my mentors a few months back and I find them very insightful. In life, you cannot stop people from opposing you. As a matter of fact, people opposing you only goes to prove that you are actually enroute in the right direction and that you are doing something good. Trust me, if you are going the wrong direction, people will not bother taking notice of you. You will agree with me that the tree which people throw stones and sticks onto, is the tree that they have seen fruits in. So the fact that people oppose and challenge you should give you the reassurance that you are doing great.

You should not allow the challenges and opposition of people to sway you off your feet. Rather, you should focus more on how to achieve your dreams and the necessary steps to take. The truth is that others that have gone ahead of you also suffered oppositions, why not you? While you are making progress, a lot of people will talk against you, of course that is expected, but you should not mind them because where you are headed to is more important than what they say about you.

If you stop to respond to or explain everything that is said about you, then you might lose sight of where you are going to. Most times, the reason why people attack or oppose you is because they are scared of what you will achieve, or they are jealous of you. But whichever case it is, you have to understand that you owe no one an explanation of your success, so keep moving. So you either pursue after your destiny and your success, or allow other people's opinion and actions to distract you. As long as you are doing the right thing, you should care less of the oppositions that come your way.

While growing up, during the break from school, we normally visited Game House to play a particular game. It is a kind of "mission game" in which a player will be given a task to recover some treasures hidden in a cave, but you have to pass through intense oppositions. When you start the game, you will not meet any single opposition because the treasure is still very far. However, when you begin to make considerable progress and when you draw near to the treasure, a lot of oppositions will arise. This shows that you are actually very close to capturing the treasure. If you get distracted by the opposition, you will not get to the treasure on time, and the game is timed.

The moment you divert your attention away from the mission and your time runs out, you will lose the game. The only way you can arrive at the treasure cave is by staying on the course and do not pay attention to the oppositions. In the same way in life, it is important for you to maintain your focus on what you want to achieve without recourse to what others do or say.

If you act to please everyone, or not to offend anyone, then you will end up displeasing yourself and becoming an offence to yourself. If you welcome every opinion from everyone, you will be distracted. In this part of the world, there is a popular idiomatic expression that says:

Too much chefs spoil the food.

What this simply means is that if you mind everyone and welcome their opinions, ideology, criticisms, advice and suggestions hook-line-and-sinker, then you are doing a great disservice to yourself. You are the only one that has the clearest picture of where you are going to and as such, you will know when you arrive there. If you get distracted and decide to stop at a place that is not your destination because someone made you to do so, you will be stranded. So be careful. I will conclude by reminding us that one of the signs that show that you are making an enviable progress is the level of oppositions you have, so learn not to be distracted by them.
