While having a discussion with a friend of mine some years back, he revealed to me that he normally sets a routine of what to do in a day. In fact, he does that ahead of the day, so by the start of the morning, he already knows what to do for the day and it will guide his actions for the day. After he said that, I took a while and observed him and I realized why he has achieved so much in his field of endeavour. Well, I also adopted the same formula and it has been working for me ever since. When you have something to guide your actions, you will not be seen doing the wrong actions or being inactive.

A lot of people complain of time itself but what they lack is just a way to manage time. You will ask someone why something has not been done and they will reply with "I do not have time," yet they will be seen doing other things. This is basically caused by not setting priorities aright. But by having a routine and a list of what to do, you will be able to appropriate your time well and then set your priorities aright. More so, effective time management and the ability to overcome procrastination are benefits of having a routine. Apart from time management, having a routine keeps one mentally relaxed and prevents "last minute rush."
Now that we have seen the benefits of having a daily routine, the next is to examine some workouts on creating a routine. That is, what will help one to effectively create their daily routine and achieve it. The first step is to have an order of the things you prioritise. Which is, know your priorities and what to favour in place of others. This will enable you to know the tasks you will place first and the ones you will substitute for others. In order to do this, you should know what you value more, what is important to you at the moment, what you need to do first, and of course, the tasks that will make for personal development. This will help you to set your priorities.
When you have set your priorities, then the next is to allocate time to them. Having an idea of what to do without knowing when you need to do them does not make sense. As you create your daily routine, you should also add time frame to them. This is to keep you focused. If the timing allocated for it is passing, then you will know that you have not fulfilled the requirements of the routine. One of the things to know is that a task does not remain valid forever, there is time meant for it, after which it may lose its validity. More so, what you are supposed to do today, if you leave it till tomorrow, it may not make it easier to be completed, rather it may even make it more complicated and complex, because you will now have more things to do.

The next thing is to set achievable and doable tasks that will give you the zeal and encouragement to undertake them. The truth is that there are some kinds of routines that you will create and you will open up yourself to undue pressure and stress, and may even be discouraged from undertaking them. But there are routines that you will create and they will motivate you to action. It is true that you need to create a routine that should be worthwhile, so that it can spur you to action, but it should not be too big to make you feel discouraged.
The last point is consistency. No matter the kind of list you write and the type of routine you make, you will still need to put consistency into it. To be consistent about your routine, you have to be disciplined because it is what is required to stick to the plan and then give it all it takes. More so, you have to understand that discipline does not consider what you feel but what needs to be done. That is, irrespective of how you feel, you have to do what is necessary and required.
