No matter how long you have dreamt and how fine your goals may sound, if you do not start an action towards it, it will remain as just imagination. The journey of many kilometres can only be achieved by taking the first step. However, one thing that you should know is that taking the first step and getting started is one of the hardest part of achieving your goal. This is because there are things you will need to overcome; like fear of the unknown, uncertainties, doubts, etc. But once you have taken the step, you will be surprised how easier other ones will becomes.

For you to get started, you have to overcome the power of procrastination. A lot of people are planning to do something and they have kept postponing it until it becomes invalid. So many opportunities and goals have not been maximized, not because they are not potent but because prompt actions are not taken on them. The truth is that, just like time, opportunities will also not wait for anyone. It is either you take advantage of them or they will pass you by. You do not expect opportunities to wait for you, rather it should meet you while already actively taking actions.

Another point to note, so as to help you get started is that you should limit your expectations of perfection. You have to understand that perfection is not, and can never be the primary requirement for success. Many people have so much conditioned their mind for perfection that they fear failure, and as such, do not take any step. One of my mentors once explained that "it is better to take a step and fail at it than staying without taking anything step." You may not have a flawless start, but you can still achieve greatness. It demands your consistency and determination. Someone may be waiting to have a flawless start and not start at all, while another person may have a rough start and is already doing well.

It is worthy to note that imperfections, uncertainties, flaws, etc, usually characterizes the first step, but it is the most important step, because other steps are actually birthed from it. Your start does not always determine how you will finish. Some hours ago, I watched a particular match in the ongoing AFCON football tournament between Ghana and Mozambique. Ghana was leading by 2 goals until the 90th minute. Then in just the few minutes of the added time; in the 91st and 94th minutes respectively, Mozambique equalized. Who would have thought that they would be able to score 2 goals in extra time, what they could not do in the normal time? This goes to prove that your imperfect and flawed start should not stop you from achieving greatness.

You cannot tell the success that can come out of a particular step until you take it. Some steps can set the pace for giant stride. That is, they can be stepping-stones to achieve greatness. So each time you are faced with an opportunity to make a move towards what you want to achieve, be prompt about it. You have to always bear in mind that time is a relatively finite resource which should be utilized effectively. Continuing to wait for the perfect time to take an action may make you to miss opportunities. The right and most appropriate time to take an action is immediately you create or conceive an idea. Just to remind you that delay can and may defeat equity.

The Benefits of starting earlier and on time is that it helps one to develop positive habits. More so, it increases the chances of success, and helps one to maintain focus. In addition to this, if you start early, you will use time to your advantage. In fact, there will be plenty of time to try out new things without time choking you. In life, everyone has the same time allocation, but you have to put action in order to turn the time to your profit. You may not be able to see the full details of the processes and the route, but as long as your know your destination, then take the first step. As you take that singular step, you will be surprised how other steps will become clearer to you in the course of action.
