Your level of knowledge or ignorance is not related to your age. Your age notwithstanding, your social status notwithstanding, you can choose to go after the knowledge you require. No age is either too old or too young to pursue knowledge. We live in an era where people no longer celebrate people based on their age or their certificates but how it can be converted to help humanity positively.

Anytime and any day, the person that has extensive knowledge of a particular field will be master over the person that does not. This is the reason I have said it over and again that your connections, your social status, and your certificates may give you access to some jobs but to be able to maintain it, you need skills and extensive knowledge about the job.
The first step towards the acquisition of knowledge is to recognize the fact that you require that particular knowledge. Then you need to attach yourself to the person that has the knowledge in that particular field. In doing so, you must rule off any form of sentiments. The person may be younger than you and may occupy lower social status than you, but it does not matter - what you need is knowledge, so you have to be prepared to be subjected to their mentorship.
Remember this, going after what will bring you gain should be your desire and there is no shame in it. If knowledge is good, then there is no shame in seeking for it. The truth is, it is either you have knowledge about something or you're ignorant - there is nothing like "assumed knowledge".
In the same way, you cannot gain the required knowledge by assumption but by carefully going for it. No one gains extensive knowledge by accident, and for you to make impact, you need to acquire extensive knowledge, and not by assumptions. If the only thing you know is what you were taught in high school or college, then your knowledge is very limited. You need to go even beyond your specialized field in the acquisition of knowledge.
If you fail to acquire knowledge, very soon, you may be subject to the one that has acquired more knowledge than you. In this world, what basically makes the difference between two people is the level of knowledge at their disposal, so go for more knowledge.
