A lot of people mistake being careful for being fearful. When someone takes their time to think before they act, some people may conclude that the person lacks courage. But what they fail to understand is that carefulness is neither fear nor weakness, rather it is a sign of wisdom, self-control, and maturity. You cannot just jump into doing something without considering the potential effects of it. The little moment you paused to think about what you want to do can save you a lifetime of regret. You have to understand that actions are not without consequence. This is why you do not have to rush to make decisions out of excitement, anger, pressure, or desperation. Always be careful.

A few months ago, one of my friends brought a particular investment opportunity to me and another of our friend. The business looked too good, and the promises of making good profits were even bigger than I could imagine. The other guy got too excited and immediately used his entire savings and invested in it. He even went further to use the meeting contribution money in his custody to invest with the hopes that he would make quick returns and replace the money. When I tried to advise him to research about it first, he knocked it off, and even said that I was just being fearful for nothing. He tried to drop a motivational quote that "life is full of risks, and you need risks to be successful."

Well, I had to take my time to do a little research about the business, I took a look at their website because it was an online investment platform. I asked questions, checked the people behind the investment, and other details, and even analysed the return of investment. It was during this study that I discovered that it looked more like ponzi scheme. I mean, how can they promise that kind of returns, and also keep telling people to register and so on? I decided not to invest. They laughed and said a lot of things. A few weeks later, the same business announced an upgrade on their website and said that they will be going off for maintenance for a few days. Up till now, after many months, they are not back. That was how they shut down with their money. My carefulness may have just saved me from the wrong investment.

It is worthy to note that being careful does not mean completely avoiding risks. Rather it means learning and applying wisdom while taking risks, and understand that they have consequences. Life will always bring choices for you to make. Some choices may look small, but they can carry some heavy consequences. For example, the words you speak may look small, but it can alter the course of your life. The people you trust can determine the outcome of your life. The opportunities you accept can influence your life in ways you may not expect. Even the money you spend, and the information you share, can affect your future.

It is carefulness that teaches one to pause and ask themself if what they are about to do is the right thing to do, and what will happen after the action is done. In this era, a lot of people are encouraged to act quickly. But your ability to pause and think before you act is an underrated strength. When other people are reacting out of emotions, a careful person will take their time to understand the situation. When other people are following the crowd and the trend, a careful person will determine which path is best for them. When others make promises that they cannot keep, someone who is careful will think about their ability to keep their words.

I have come to realise that carefulness can prevent one from making unnecessary mistakes. It is true that you may not be able to avoid every mistake in life, but there are ones that, just by being careful, you can avoid. For example, reading an agreement very well before you sign it. Cross-checking an information for authenticity before you post it. Some people have entered unnecessary legal problems simply because they did not verify an information before posting it, and they were seen as cyber criminals. In everything you do, always try to carry your brain along. Think critically before you act.
