Right from when an individual is born and throughout their lifetime, they will be faced with countless challenges. However, it is what they make out of those adversities that will determine what they will take out of life. In order to navigate effectively through the huddles and oppositions of life, one needs to be determined, resilient, creative, and possess a positive mentality - a mindset that will not see oppositions as stumbling blocks, rather in a positive light as stepping-stones for success. The truth is that you cannot avoid challenges, but you can turn them into opportunities.

I once read about a particular artist who was among the most popular, not just in his locality but the world at large. He has always wanted to make a painting for the locals that will stand as a legacy for him when he leaves the neighbourhood. So one day, he went into one of the restaurants to have his lunch and as the waitress was about bringing his meal to him, maybe out of excitement that he is about to serve his childhood hero, she tripped and the food splashed on the wall. The wall was newly painted and the stain made some really bad mess on the wall. Everyone, including the owner of the restaurant, was disappointed at what the lady did, except the artist.

What the artist did amazed everyone. As everyone saw the scenario as a challenge, he saw some great opportunities in it. He reach out into the bag containing his tools - paints, brushes, etc, and went to the spot that the splash was and used the stain to make an adorable painting of what happened. It was a pictorial depiction of the scenery that led to the splash. He made a spectacle out of what should have been a challenge. When he was done, everyone was wowed, so much that the restaurant became like a tourist destination that people would have to pay to come and see the amazing painting. All because of the fact that someone converted challenges to opportunities.

You will be surprised that the same opportunity you have been wishing and hoping for is right at your face staring at you. However, the reason why a lot of people have not located it is because they are hoping for opportunities to carry the tag of opportunity or when they will look like it. But what they fail to understand is that some of the things that people call challenges are actually more often opportunities. Take this instance; when the weather becomes dry, it may look like a challenge because of thirst and lack of water, but it will still be an opportunity for the people that sell water to make some really good gain.

One of the things I have understood and believed about life is that the challenges that come to you is not coming to break you into pieces but to make something great out of you - that is, to make you stronger. This is is the reason it is said that the very thing that did not succeed to kill you will ultimately strengthen you and make you stronger. You may not have seen what you have anticipated for, but it does not mean that what you have seen should weigh you down; you have to look for a way to turn it to your advantage. For the fact that challenges come to you should give you the hope that, at least, you are doing something right. If you do not experience oppositions, then it may just mean that you are on the wrong route.

One of my friends used to make this statement; "challenges are part of life, you cannot stop them, rather you can turn them to your ally." What this simply means is that anything that happens to you, you should look for a way to see opportunities in it. No matter how bad something may appear, if you can look beyond the "badness," you will see a lot of opportunities in it. You will be surprised that what you are calling a problem is what someone else is already riding on to create impact in the world. Do not allow any situation to have your back against the wall, always find a way around it.
