The good deeds you do today is what will be remembered of your memory even after you have long gone. Have you asked yourself how you would want the future generation to remember you? Is it as someone who provided solution to humanity through their actions or someone that created the problems themselves? When you think of the future; of posterity, you will know what and how to act. If what you are about to do will rob you of a blessed memory, then you should reconsider it. It is worthy to note that posterity (or blessed memory, in this context) is not enforced, rather it is earned by through good deeds.

The good you do to humanity is also done for yourself. You will be surprised how your good acts of today will be what will open doors for you in the future or maybe become what will pave a way for your children even when you are gone. I remember what I experienced on a certain day that explains why we need to be good at all times even to the people we do not know. I went into an organisation for a particular service to be rendered to me. It was delaying and I had limited time to get it done. With the way things were going, I almost lost hope because I did not see the possibility of getting it done again.

Just when I was about to leave in sadness, the Manager walked in and I tried explaining my request to him. Still, he said the same thing that others said. It was already almost 4pm on Friday and the office closes by 4pm and will reopen on Monday, but I will be needing that particular service by Saturday, so I could not wait till Monday. In the course of my explanation, he noticed my accent and asked where I was, which I told him. He explained that his father once lived with a man from my place and he treated him well. When he mentioned the name of the man, I smiled and told him that he was my grandfather who has passed on for many years.

On knowing that I was related to the man, the same request that I almost lost hope on was settled that same Friday without needing to come back on Monday. The good act that was done by my grandfather was benefitted by me; the grandson. The manager also added some other benefits to it and told me, "your grandfather did more than that for my father." Now imagine if my grandfather was cruel to his father, he may have taken his revenge on me and may not even reason further with me. This is why I believe that every good thing you do in life is like sowing a seed that will be harvested in the future.

You may not see the immediate returns on your acts of goodness, but still keep doing it, because one day it will speak and it will be loud. There are things that you are enjoying today which are results of the actions of the past. In the same way, there are things that you do today that will bring the rewards in the future. If you only have hope in the immediate without considering the future, then you should have a rethink. Many of the things that people do is not for the present rewards but for the future rewards and for posterity. If after you have lived and gone and there is no good thing to remember you for, then your existence was not necessary. This reminds me of what my friend normally says:

If your absence is not felt, then your presence was not required.

If you are remarked for doing good, it is better than being remarked for bad. The truth is that whatever you sow today (your actions, in this context) is what you will reap in the future. If you do good, you are doing it for yourself, the same thing happens when you do bad. So make your choice. You can only make a choice of what your actions will be, but you cannot determine the effect. So make the right choices today that your tomorrow will be happy with.
