Some people in business may complain of one thing or the other that they feel is wrong with the business, but they fail to understand what they are not doing right. It may shock you to know that human factor is among the leading contributors of lack of success in business. How will you explain someone that is in business but will not open their place of business till midday and it will not be long and they close for the day, how will they make sales? Diligence in one's business is a major plus and make for financial breakthroughs and success. This reminds me of this verse from the Holy Book:
Someone who is diligent in their business will stand before kings and not before ordinary people.

If you think that your business is not moving as required or as you have expected it to, just ask yourself "how committed are you and how diligent are you in the business?" No matter what you do, as long as it is right and legit, it does not matter how you started, with diligence, you can make it to the top. You will be surprised that the difference between a successful business and a failure may not be a function of the type of business, but the commitment and diligence behind the business. The seemingly small business that is in your hand, if you mix it with fervency, determination, diligence, and commitment, it will turn to much. But even if they give you much, without the aforementioned virtues, it might turn to little.
A few months back, a friend of mine opened a shop where he wanted to sell stationeries and other school materials like exercise books, writing materials, etc. However, after about 6 months of being in the business, there was little to nothing that he could show for it. When he came to tell me about it, I asked him a few questions and I quickly understood where the problem was. I asked him when he normally opened his shop and he said around 8:30am. I told him that with the kind of things he sells, he needs to be open while students will be going to school. Because by that 8:30, they must have passed by and he would miss the customers.
He heeded to the advice and adjusted his opening time to 7:00am in the morning. Amazingly, the kind of sales he began to get from 7:00am to 8:00am became more than what he made after 8:00am till evening. For him to keep up with that timing, he needs diligence to his business. He realized that there was nothing actually wrong with the business as he had initially thought, the only thing wrong was the lack of diligence that he exhibited. When he figured out his undoings and retraced his steps, he started making sales. This goes to prove that success in business is heavily dependent on who is involved in the business and not necessarily on the type of business.
It is worthy to note that diligence is not a gift. That is, no one is born with the exclusive ability to take their business seriously. If you are to take your business with diligence, then you have to make it as a choice. It is the choices you make in business that ultimately makes your business either successful or not. If you make a choice to follow your business with laxity, your result will be below par. But if you make a choice to give your business the required push, you will receive a good result for it. You cannot take your business as a hobby and hope to make something worthwhile from it. If you must make something great from it, then you have to take it as a business and give it all it takes.

When you are diligent in your business, you have already put yourself in the pathway of success and you have edge over others. I remember when one of my mentors once explained to me that the only thing needed for a business to work is to work it out yourself. From this, I understood that it is what one does (in terms of work) that will correlate to results (or profit, in the case of business). You may not even have the entire support in the whole world, but when you have determination and diligence, then you have gotten almost all that you need to make for success.
