This topic is one I can very well relate with, and I know a lot of us can as well relate with it. Some of us have had to do things just so to earn from them; most times these things are stuff we never imagined ourselves doing, but when life comes at you, you will eventually find yourself doing that thing. It is not easy, but then man gast make a living.

Now, about seven years ago now, I was still inside school; it was my first year in the higher institution, just an ND1 student. I did something I never see myself doing; before then I'd had to do things, and even after then I've done a lot of other things too, but that seven years ago stood out, and it happens to be something I will never do again. Not as if it is not legitimate, I just can't anymore.

So, I was very broke and needed money; help isn't forthcoming from anywhere. I was in a tight spot; school bills kept piling up and some other things too. That was how a friend of mine introduced me to a work he's going for in another town entirely. I asked him to go first and then reach out to me once he settles and see how things go. Long story short, I went a week later, and I spent almost a whole month there working; it was this charcoal work with the Chinese people that we were doing. It is very, very stressful work. There's the stage of packing wood and stuffing it into a clay-made kind of oven that's very big, then we light a fire to it and cover it up, and in a few days, it's all done. We always pack it out from night till dawn; we pack out the red and hot coal and cover it up with sand. It's not an experience I want to even remember.

It is the most stressful, exhausting, and life-threatening jobs I've ever done. It is not easy work; at times I just wonder if it is actually worth it. The pay is at least good, but it's just like they're paying us for our life... You get that? But then, I just needed money, and I just need to work to earn it. A first-year student leaving school to work, I get mind o 馃榿...

And about if I will ever do that job again, well, you already know my answer: I will never do it again. I cannot put myself in harm's way all because of money. I know that it is important to make money, but my health and safety matters more. I know my limits now; I know what I can do and what I can't do, and for that reason, that job is a no no for me.
