There is a kind of dignity that comes from working. As a matter of fact, earning what you worked for confers a level of self-worth. There is a feeling that comes when you know that you are not a liability to the society and that you work for your needs. It does not matter what you are engaged in, as long as it is centered around legitimacy and legality, then there is dignity in it. There are many things that one stands to gain by working and by engaging oneself in labour. We shall take a look at them.

1. Financial stability and independence
A very vital benefit and the most important reason why people engage in one form of work or the other is to earn finances. By working and earning, there is a level of financial stability that one attains. Take an example of yourself before you started working and now that you are working, you will discover that the difference is very clear. During your secondary school days, the major part of your needs may have been met by your parents because you were dependent and not working. At this present point, it will be an aberration if you are still dependent on them, because you are working and taking responsibilities for your life. You see, work confers on you the financial means to take responsibilities.
I remember when I finished from school and got a place for my internship program, it felt so good because I was beginning to earn a living. I was able to afford what I normally could not. Not just that, I got more stable because of the fact that I can fulfil some of my financial obligations. The truth is that if you are working to earn your own living, you are far better than someone that is overly dependent on someone else for sustenance. No matter how small and how it may look, try to engage your hands in doing something worthwhile. You can even monetize what you can do and earn from it. A friend once said:
What you can do very well, do not do it for free.
2. Social and interpersonal connection
There is a level of connection that you can never get until you engage your hands in works. More often than not, it is at the point of working that one gets to network with other people of like minds. Working helps one to connect more with people and build relationships with them. A few days back, I needed something to get done for me. I remembered that a colleague of mine when I was doing my internship program actually does something like that, so I quickly beckoned on him and it was done. This was possible because of the relationship I had built doing my period of work in that place.
The more you work, the more you socialise with people, and the more you build relationships with them. You will agree with me that labour or work is not done in isolation, it requires interaction with people. With this interaction, social connection will be built. More so, for one to grow and to achieve their dreams, they will need the input of others. Work is one of the ways to relate with people so as to get their inputs.

3. Personal and career growth
You will agree with me that when you do a particular work for sometime, you will gain mastery in that field and will lead you to become better in that work. For example, in this part of the world, during or after your university education, you will be required to go for internship program (typically for 1 year). During that period of internship; which is work, you will be made to learn a few things about your field and this will help you to develop yourself towards it.
Working gives one the opportunity to improve on themself and for personal growth. Like; you can master the act of effective communication, you can also develop your relational and interpersonal skills, and your problem-solving skills. If you want to grow your skills, the easiest way to achieve that is by engaging in work. Just like it is said:
Practice leads to perfection.
