The tongue (and the mouth, by extension) may look like a small member of your body, but it has the incredible power to create the unimaginable, or to destroy it. If wielded correctly, the tongue can be a great asset to your destiny and can place you on the paths of great achievements, but if used wrongly, it may become a bad tool in your hands. Trust me, there is how you will talk to someone, even when the person is angry, and it will soothe their soul. But there is also how you will talk to them and it will trigger rage. So you should learn how to use the power of the tongue.

The truth is that your justification or condemnation can be a result of what you have said. Have you ever wondered why, if arrest is to be made, the arresting officer will tell the suspect that "what they say will be used against them?" If you are able to learn to control your tongue, then you have wadded off some troubles that would have come your way. Of course, a lot of people have willingly subscribed to trouble simply because they could not control their mouth.
It is worthy to note that you are not meant to say everything simply because you want to, or because you feel like talking. As a matter of fact, if you say everything without having reservations, you may end up saying what should not be, and it will land you into something regrettable. More so, the more you talk, the more you reveal unnecessary details and secrets, and the more people will commonize you. It is true that we live in a world that has prioritized communication and information, but the information you communicate should also be considered to know if they are worth it.
One of the proofs of your internal strength is measured in how you have mastered your tongue. Strength is not assumed, it is not claimed or appropriated, it is proven. If you cannot prove your strength, then it is simply not there. When things happen, the way you will react will show if indeed you have strength. When someone angers you, do you burst into flames and rain abusive words out of anger or do you control your words? Obviously, you will need and incredible amount of strength to be able to control your tongue in the face of provocation. Trust me, most of the things that people say out of anger are regrettable. So what is the point of saying what you know that you will regret later?
One of the ways to gain mastery over your tongue is to think before you speak. One of the problems that have faced a lot of people is that their words, more often than not, are spontaneous - that is; they are spoken without premeditation and thinking. Before you speak, take a moment to give thought to what you are about to say. Your mouth should not precede your brain, rather it should be the other way round. Your thoughts must go first, then your words can come later. This is very necessary especially in the face of provocation. If you will be able to refrain from speaking when angry, you will discover that what you would have said might have been disastrous.

Over the years, I have learnt how powerful words can be. Even when you are correcting someone for their wrongdoings, there is a choice of words that you will use and the person will not take the corrections, or may even pick offence. At the end, you would not have fulfilled the purpose of correcting the person if they did not take it.
You should also keep in mind that words reflect who a person truly is; their character. From what someone says, you will determine, with an almost accurate precision, what goes on in the person's mind. So in order to use words positively, you should first start by being positive yourself, then have a positive mindset. This is because your heart (mind) is the birthplace of words.
