A few years back, I watched a particular heavyweight kickboxing tournament in which one of the competitors received some heavy punches and kicks that would have knocked him out completely at the start of the game. By the middle of the game, his body was already "panel-beated" by his opponent, which they later found out that he suffered from a broken nose, cracked ribs and a broken jaw from those kicks, but he fought on. Awesomely, he was able to connect a knockout kick on his opponent and he finally won the match irrespective of how badly he had been beaten. Resilience at play.

You should understand that life will not deliver things to you simply because you deserve it, but it will only deliver what you have demanded for - through determination, resilience and the spirit of "I can." If you are to quit at the sight of each challenge of life, then you are not ready for the glory that lies ahead. The people that have accomplished unimaginable feats are those that have gone against the odds and faced the tides of life, hoped against hope, fought through "thick and thin." If you think life will be fair, then think again. Life does not care about how you feel but the actions you take towards it.

For the people that know a thing or two about the military, you will agree with me that no one will give you the rank of a General because they like your face, but because you have proven that you earned it through years of dedication, facing combats and wars, and ensuring national security and safety. In the same way in life, if you want to be successful, then you have to earn it through putting in your best and stopping at nothing to achieve it. If the people that you envy their success tell you about their story, you will realise that it was never a rosy journey to stardom. Of course, this is why I believe that the secret of a successful person lies in their story. If you are willing to make the sacrifices that they made, you will experience the same level of success.

It is weird when you see people attributing luck to someone's success. Well, luck is good, and everyone desires it. However, luck will make more sense when it means you already taking actions. A lot of what you call luck are years of intense labour and hard work. Take for instance: An engineer came to repair a particular system of machines when all other engineers that were called could not fix it. In just a few minutes on inspecting the machines and touching a few nuts, it started working fine. Then the engineer charged them some thousands of dollars for it. Some people were almost raged by that because they saw just a work of less than 10 minutes being billed for that amount. However, what they did not understand was that the engineer had invested years of work in order to learn how to fix such machines in minutes. It is not luck, but hard work.

A lot of people say that life cannot be predicted and they tend to use it as an excuse for quitting, but this should also be one of the reasons you need to continue. The truth is that things may not go as you have already planned and life may throw a couple of things at you, but how you respond to it will hold a lot of importance. If you always quit even before trying, then success may not be attainable. This is because success is not a gift that is given freely, it requires a level of work to attain it.

If you think that you are the only one that is passing through the challenges of life, then I might just tell you that a lot of people are even passing through worse. More often than not, people quit, not because their challenges are stronger than them, but because they have not built the capacity to face and overcome the challenges. So in order to keep yourself above your challenges, you have to be committed to developing yourself and your capacity to face the challenges. Always remember that the more you build yourself, the simpler your challenges appear.
