Not all Jewish people in Israel people feel hatred towards Gazans and want violent retribution inflicted on the civilian population of Gaza. They maybe a small minority.
I've seen growing numbers of Israelis protesting and blaming their own Prime Minster for his failings in taking action to prevent the Hamas attack and for a lack of willingness to negotiate to get the hostages released from Gaza.
Violence will never solve a problem which is based on a historical injustice. To believe otherwise is both irrational and delusional.
I come from an Irish Catholic background and experienced great deal of anti Irish racism growing up as a child due to the civil war in N. Ireland. As a teenager I held the mistaken belief that the IRA would somehow liberate the Catholic population from oppression at the hands of the British state. I felt a great deal of anger against the British army and repressive British state due to the many massacres carried out against Catholics, the Bloody Sunday Massacre being one of many such incidents.
By the mid 1990s there was a growing war weariness amongst both Catholic and Protestant communities and a desire for peace based a on a recognition that violence would never solve the problems of the people in the region. This together with a realization by the British state that no amount of repression and troops, which peaked at around 20,000 occupying soldiers, would ever be able to crush the IRA. In its turn the IRA realized that its so called armed struggle was a failure. All of this paved the way for the Good Friday peace agreement. Now we have Sein Fein as the largest party in Northern Ireland and its on its way to becoming the largest party in the South as well. A united Ireland referendum may be only a few years away. It just goes to show how violent retribution is never a solution.
