病不殺人, 藥不活人, (병은 결코 사람을 죽일 수 없고, 약은 결코 사람을 살릴 수 없다.)내 병은 내가 고친다.

전통 양생법에 보면 구법(灸法)은 양생(養生)의 대법(大法)이라고 기록되어 있다.

현대인들도 구법(灸法)의 중요성을 점점 인식해 가고 있다. 쑥뜸은 인체의 모든 질병을 치료해 준다.

어떤 사람들은 침을 먼저 경혈상에 놓고 침병(針柄)에 애주(艾炷)를 비끌어 매어서 이것을 태워 열기(熱氣)가 침을 통하여 근육 속으로 전달케 하는 온침구법(溫鍼灸法)을 사용한다.

애주(艾炷)란? 심지 모양으로 비비고 꼬아 만든 뜸쑥을 일컫는다. 쑥은 피부를 뚫고 들어가는 침투력이 강한 약초이다. 쑥의 성(性)은 열성(熱性)이다. 침병(針柄)에 쑥을 매달아 태우면 침의 효력과 뜸의 효력이 더하여 져서 더 큰 효과를 나타낸다.

격강구(隔薑灸)는 복사(腹瀉)에 효과가 있다. 노인들이 장기간 변이 무르고 급성복사가 발생했을 때 항생제를 사용하는 것은 노인들에게 해를 끼친다. 이때 생강을 약 3 푼(分) 정도 두께로 잘라서 이것을 배꼽 위에 놓고 그 위에 콩알 만한 애주(艾炷)를 놓은 다음 태운다. 피부상에 한습홍윤(汗濕紅潤)이 생기면 뜸을 그친다.

이와 같은 뜸 치료 방법을 격강구라고 칭하는데 노인들에게 유익한 구법이다.

또 여성들의 자궁근종(子宮筋腫 : Hysteromyoma)의 치료에 관원혈(關元穴)에 뜸을 해주면 자궁근종은 완전히 치유된다. 특히 여성들의 통경(痛經)과 월경불순에 애부난궁환(艾附暖宮丸)으로 치료하는데 격강구로 치료하면 효과가 훨씬 빠르다.

구법(灸法) 중에 격부자병구(隔附子餠灸)란 것이 있다. 부자의 열성(熱性)을 이용한 구법인데 먼저 부자를 가루내어 약 3 푼(分) 두께로 얇게 떡을 만들어 배꼽 위에 놓고 애구(艾灸)하는데 떡이 마르면 다시 젖은 떡으로 갈아 바꾸고 피부에 열감을 느낄때 까지 뜬다. 복사와 중기하함(中氣下陷)의 치료에 사용된다.

격부자병구법(隔附子餠灸法)은 신궐혈(神闕穴)에 사용할 때 가장 큰 효과가 있다.

신궐혈(神闕穴)이란 무엇인가?

사람이 태어날 때 탯줄을 자르면 선천적인 신명(神明)이 결여된다. 그래서 배꼽을 신궐혈이라 칭한다. 신궐(神闕)은 신(神)이 머무는 궁궐이라는 뜻이다. 다만 신궐혈(神闕穴)에는 뜸은 뜰수 있지만 침은 금기로 되어 있다.

고인들은 피부에 직접 쑥을 놓고 한 장(壯) 한 장(壯) 태움으로써 피부에 흉터를 생기게 하는 파흔구법(疤痕灸法)을 사용했다. 고인들은 파흔구(疤痕灸)를 매우 좋아했으며 양생의 대법으로 알고 있었다.

혹자는 뜸자리를 고정시켜 두고 매년 300여 장(壯) 씩 뜸을 떴다.

인체내에서 양생의 대혈(大穴)이라고 칭하는 족삼리혈(足三里穴)은 위경(胃經)에 속해 있다.

고인들은 ”요상신체봉(要想身體棒), 삼리상불건(三里常不乾)” 이란 말을 믿고 있었다.

다시 말하면 ”신체가 건강하기를 원하면 족삼리(足三里)가 마르면 않된다.” 는 뜻이다.

즉 신체를 튼튼하게 하려면 족삼리(足三里)에 항상 뜸을 떠서 뜸자리가 헐어있는 상태를 유지하고 있어야 되지 마르면 않된다는 뜻이다. 족삼리(足三里)는 위경과 통하며 족삼리(足三里)가 항상 화농(化膿) 상태에 있으면 후천지본(後天之本)인 비위(脾胃)가 튼튼해 져서 신체가 건강해 진다.

고대 양생학에 보면 절기구(節氣灸)가 있다.

절기구(節氣灸)란?

각기 다른 절기(節氣)에 각각 다른 혈위에 뜸을 뜨는 것을 일컫는다. 절기는 1 년을 스물 넷으로 나눈 철을 일컫는다.

그중 중요한 절기는 동지가 있다. 그래서 동지를 전후로 뜨는 뜸을 동지구(冬至灸)라고도 부른다. 동지 전 4 일과 동지 후 4 일 도합 8 일에다가 동지 까지 포함하면 모두 9 일 동안 배꼽에 뜸을 뜨는 법이다.

복부는 태음(太陰)이며 음성(陰性)이다. 열성 물질이 가해지면 기혈의 순환이 가속된다. 그 결과 인체의 기의 메커니즘은 정상 궤도를 달리게 된다. 고인들 중에 동지구를 실행한 사람들은 그 이듬 해에 질병에 걸리지 않는다고 믿고 있었다.

배꼽 뿐만 아니라 인체의 중요한 혈위는 배꼽 아래에 위치한 기해혈(氣海穴)과 관원혈(關元穴)도 있다.

관원혈(關元穴)은 인체에 매우 유익한 혈위이다.

금병매(金甁梅)에 나오는 서문경(西門慶)과 반금련(潘金蓮)의 고사(故事)에 보면 서문경이 마지막으로 대량의 장양약(壯陽藥)을 복용한 후 폭탈증(暴脫症)에 걸린 장면이 나온다. 서문경은 전신이 얼음덩이 처럼 차거워 졌고 사지를 제대로 움직일 수 없었으며 온 몸은 푸른빛을 띄었다. 최후로 서문경의 음경(陰莖) 속에서는 정액이 밖으로 넘쳐 흘렀다. 결국 서문경은 죽고 말았다.

한의학에 의하면 서문경의 경우 최후 구급방은 관원혈(關元穴)에 침을 놓아 원기를 북돋아 주고 관원혈(關元穴)에 뜸을 해주는 방법이다. 그러나 반금련은 한의학 지식이 전혀없는 여인이었음으로 서문경은 죽을 수 밖에 없었다.

맹자(孟子)는 ”칠년지병(七年之病), 당구삼년지애(當求三年之艾)” 라고 말했다. 다시 말하면 ”당신이 병에 걸린지 7 년이 되었으면 적어도 3 년은 뜸을 떠야 완전히 치유된다.” 는 뜻이다.

이 말의 진의(眞意)는 병은 올 때 크게오고 치유될 때는 모르는 사이에 치유된다는 뜻도 포함되어 있다.

민간 속담에 ”병래여산도(病來如山倒), 병거여추사(病去如抽絲)” 란 말이 있다.

다시 말하면 ”병은 산이 무너지는 것 처럼 왔다가 병의 회복은 누에 고치를 켜듯 완만하다.” 는 뜻이다.

질병의 치료 과정은 완만함으로 치료 기간 동안은 지나치게 초조할 필요가 없다. 또 의사에게 지나친 요구도 할 필요가 없고 마음을 가라앉히고 한 걸음 씩 착실하게 치료를 받는 것이 중요하다.

맹자가 말한 ”칠년지병(七年之病), 당구삼년지애(當求三年之艾)” 의 또 다른 의미는 구법 치료 과정 중 기술적인 면에 대하여 언급한 것이다.

쑥은 일정한 시간이 경과한 것이 독성이 없어서 좋다. 그러므로 쑥은 오래된 것 일 수록 좋다. 오래된 쑥은 독성이 없으므로 쑥 속에 들어있는 유효성분의 효과가 더욱 강하게 나타난다.

고인들은 봄철에 돌아다니는 역병(疫病)을 예방하기 위해서 매년 봄이 돌아오면 쑥을 채취한 후 한 다발 씩 문설주 위에 걸어 두었다. 이와 같이 함으로써 춘천역신(春天疫神)의 역귀(疫鬼)를 집안에 얼씬 거리지 못하게 하는 일종의 풍속인데 일정한 유행병 방지의 과학적인 도리가 있다.
