Resurgence
Greetings to the entire Full Deportes community! After my most recent post in the community feed, I started analyzing why only Barcelona and Real Madrid have to fill my posts when I can open up to other clubs that are doing quite well this season. Almost a year ago, I made a post discussing the management that Rubén Amorim could assume at Manchester United, following his excellent tenure at Sporting de Portugal. Knowing that he was arriving at a club in total crisis, the Portuguese manager did what he could, managed to save United from relegation, and they played in a European final despite losing to Tottenham.
This season didn’t start in the best way for them, and honestly, it will be difficult to stay at the top of the table, as we all know the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. At the beginning of this campaign, they also conducted a clean-up and brought in new signings, which I discussed in one of my more recent posts, and these players ranked among the top 10 most expensive signings of the summer, meaning they opened their wallets.
They had a fantastic month of October, winning 3 matches and drawing one. This clearly reflects the confidence placed in Amorim, and it’s logical; you can’t just fire someone who arrived at a club that was in sporting, institutional, and professional crisis and expect immediate results. Not even Guardiola, who I consider to be the best manager in history, could perform such magic. So where does the key point of Rubén Amorim's management lie? Simply put, the players feel committed to the club, and you can see the change in several of them.
Today, they faced Tottenham, a always difficult team coming off a thrashing in the Champions League, and they delivered a fantastic match that was decided in the last action. With this, the Red Devils have gone 5 matches without knowing defeat, which is an additional incentive to keep competing in the Premier League. Perhaps not at the level of Arsenal or Manchester City, but definitely with the intention of aiming for European qualification. Another key factor in this resurgence of the Red Devils is that they changed their goalkeeper; a big team must always have a reliable keeper. They literally sent Onana to Turkey’s league and brought Lammens from Royal Antwerp, who many doubted but has silenced his critics.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Manchester United, but their good season compared to the last three inspired me to talk about this great club that spent a significant part of its history under Sir Alex Ferguson’s management. I believe they still cannot aspire to win the Premier League, but it’s good to see United back in action, competing head-to-head with all English clubs; it’s something that rekindles interest among their fans who are tired of memes and mockery from other clubs and supporters.
