POEM: THEORY OF DARKNESS

I catalog the forces from without
and within

They meet the
skin, bridge some dare to cross
and enter

I know I am not man made
as my bridge extends in time

Resting on decades
a place for all peoples and minds

To those tourist who toss coins
at me expecting a wish

I could never build for such a bleak
request from meager puffs

I roll across the mountain side
and lay along the hills

With every decade, I become as nature
alive and still

If there be doses of darkness
then hope has no way
to whisper thoughts
of plans to move about the country

With darkness cast aside
muses can ignite
to give my being means and ends
to no end day or night

I was made to be
more than a room dweller
I call for my brothers and sisters
who are in the cellar

We hold hands and step outside
to cap captivity
to tend to our orchard with light
caring for the city
