I just finished a 33.574km running that lasted about 3hh:2mm:44ss !
It was 23 miles :) I didn’t start watch at the beginning for the first 2 miles.
With a brewing cold I slept through my alarm and had to run around the house like a tornado getting ready to set off at 8am for this weekends long run. Loaded up on paracetamol, ibuprofen and strepsils I pulled on some warm layers, trail shoes and packed my hydration vest.
The starting point was a 15 minute drive away so still near enough to be classed as “local” but far enough away for a change of scenery. My friend had plotted a 37km route through parts of Sherwood Forest and I had nothing else exciting planned for the day so I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to get out despite feeling rough
It was a very chilly -3C but the weather app said it felt more like -10 because of the wind chill so stops for food and drinks had to kept short and often. Even when we got to the cafe at the half way point we decided against having tea and cake because it would take so long to warm up again. It was beautiful seeing the forest like that though, icicles hanging off tunnels, lakes frozen solid.
My pain relief was wearing thin by the final 10k and my pace plummeted. I needed a lot of convincing to keep putting one foot in front of the other and if it wasn’t so cold I would have walked! It felt great to get back to the car and go home to a hot drink and bath.
Weekly mileage of about 40miles this week. Next week is half term and i’m going to take it a little easier... ready for a full trail marathon attempt the following werk!
