I've long enjoyed IPA's since I first discovered them in the early 1990's with Sierra Nevada. It wasn't until a few years ago though that I settled on my favorite IPA by Lagunitas brewing, A Little Sumpin, Sumpin. It's a fairly strongly flavored IPA, as if most aren't, but it's easy to drink for me. It may have to do with the fact it is a wheat beer. Who knows.
I've been fortunate enough to have found several places in Japan that carry Lagunitas beers, for example the the Copen Local Base Cafe in Kamaura.
Yesterday though, I discovered something. I was drinking a Little Sumpin Sumpin and I took a bite of pink grapefruit slices I had. It paired wonderfully with the IPA!
I haven't been interested in pairing in the past even though I've done it at several breweries in Japan. Suddenly though, I realized how a beer I have been drinking for years can be made into an even better experience! Now I'm excited to try pairing different foods with other beers. It's strange how suddenly you can appreciate things in life that hyou may not have been able to in the past.
I'd encourage you to grab a Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin and pair it with pink grapefruit. See if you have the same reaction I did.
This is #BeerSaturday week and I would like to invite @boxcarblue to write a post in any language about beer with at least 3 pictures.
Thanks for reading!
