Saturday I was looking for a church to attend for Easter mass, but due to the coronavirus all of them were closed. One interesting thing I found was a Coptic Christian Church a few blocks away. I'm not familiar with them other that they are routinely persecuted in Egypt by Muslim fanatics and there is a monastery way out in the desert on the way to Las Vegas. So I did a little research.

"According to its tradition, the Coptic Church was established by Saint Mark, an apostle and evangelist, during the middle of the 1st century (c. AD 42).[2] Due to disputes concerning the nature of Christ, it split from the rest of the Christendom after the Council of Chalcedon in AD 451, resulting in a rivalry with the Byzantine Orthodox Church. That got me thinking, wow, this Church is as old as the Catholic Church and they are still around. Now, I haven't dug any further into either yet, but I was just surprised to see there is another church from the 1st century AD.

Do you know anything about the Coptic Christians?

Stay safe and rock on.
