It's all new to me....
This area of Christianity has always intrigued me, but ever since I really started looking into it, I realized how little I actually knew...
Peter calls us to be ready, and to give an answer to anyone that asks or questions our faith. And I really took this verse to heart...
This is the mission statement for pretty much every apologist out there and there seems to be a pretty big push on social media these days for this area of Christianity.
And no, apologetics doesn't mean to 'apologize' for being people of faith, far from it. Let's see what the true definition is:
Good ol' Wikipedia with the answer :)
Anyways, back to my latest obsession....I decided to dive into this aspect of my faith but never to 'win an argument'. I literally wanted to know everything I could about what I claim...And as a believer, we will be challenged.
The first thing I did was look into the books that most people recommend and I came up with quite a few.
This was the first one on pretty much everyone's list. And for good reason. The biggest take away from 'Tactics' was that you never shy away from discussion, but you never try to 'win an argument'. Because once it's an argument, you have lost.
My pride takes a big hit when I understand that lol And sometimes I do feel from what's out there on social media, a lot of this apologetics stuff comes from a prideful position and not really glorifying God.
I recently finished Tactics and thoroughly enjoyed it!
I'm currently in the middle of reading these next two books:
I'm a big fan of Timothy Keller and he's a pastor and author I've read frequently over the years. Sadly he passed away a few years, but his writings have helped me so much in my walk with Jesus.
But the one under Timothy's book was the one I have been most excited to read....
If you know anything about Christian Apologetics, you will know the name Frank Turek.
Frank is a titan in the apologetics world and he's all over social media talking about faith and sharing it with others. Always respectful and always biblically sound.
This book has been a blast so far, and I'm about 80% done it. I plan on doing a #bookreview for it when I'm done!
And I have a bunch more books I plan on diving into after I'm finished these.
And now, the big disclaimer...This isn't for Jongo to parade around and argue with everyone. I remember clearly the advice from Tactics, and as soon as it's an argument, you have lost.
But I really want to commit to 1 Peter 3:15. I have my thoughts about some prophetic words Christ told us in His gospels, and that is that we will be brought before courts for His name sake.
So for me, it's purely taking Scripture to heart. Always being ready because we see from Jesus' own mouth....The time will come when we will need to be ready to give an answer!
