Hello, Hive friends! I hope you’re all doing great and having a wonderful weekend. Today I want to share with this community some moments I spent with coworkers and friends I’ve known for many years on our latest work trip to Jamaica.
It turns out, friends, that in addition to being a physical education teacher, I’m also a certified industrial ceramics technician. And even though I now work at a school, whenever the company I worked for before moving to Margarita has a project, they always get in touch with me to see if I can go. This time, luckily, I was on vacation, so I took the opportunity to join the team working on the restoration of the Jamalco kilns, located in Halse Hall, Clarendon, Jamaica.
Hola amigos de Hive! Espero que todos se encuentren muy bien y tengan un feliz fin de semana. Hoy quiero compartir en esta comunidad un tiempo de compartir con compañeros de trabajo y amigos de muchos años de amistad en nuestro último viaje de trabajo a Jamaica.
Resulta amigos que yo aparte de Profesor de Eucación Física soy Técnico Superior en Cerámica Industrial y aunque ahorita estoy dedicado a trabajar en un colegio, cuando la empresa en la que yo trabajaba antes de venirme a Margarita tienen alguna parada siempre me contactan por si puedo ir y en esta oportunidad por suerte estaba de vacaciones y aproveché de incorporarme al trabajo en la recuperación de los hornos de la empresa Jamalco que está en Halse Hall, Clarendon, Jamaica.
These stops are brief, and the work is organized according to a strict schedule; we work consecutive shifts and are divided into two groups: one group works the morning shift and the other the night shift to cover 24 hours. This year, I was assigned the morning shift for the first time in many years.
Well, the thing is, on this trip I reconnected with many coworkers I hadn’t seen in years—even some from college—so even though we were busy, it was nice to see them and spend time with them. Since the schedule was so tight, we only had one day off every nine days, but we took advantage of it to go into town to take our minds off work, hang out, and buy a few things to bring back to our families.
Estas paradas son por poco tiempo y el trabajo se arma en base a un cronograma estricto y trabajamos jornadas corridas y nos dividen en dos grupos: a un grupo le toca en la mañana y a otro grupo en la noche para trabajar las 24 horas. Este año me tocó el turno de la mañana por primera vez en muchos años.
Bueno, la cosa es que, en este viaje me reencontré con muchos compañeros de trabajo que tenía años que no veía. Incluso con algunos compañeros de la universidad, así que, aunque estábamos ocupados, fue bueno poder verlos y compartir con ellos. Como el cronograma era tan apretado solo teníamos un día cada nueve días para descansar, pero nosotros lo aprovechábamos para ir al pueblo a distraer la mente, compartir y comprar algunas cosas para traer a nuestras familias.
The closest place to us was downtown May Pen, and we’d head there to Main Street, to the Hua Square shopping center, which was where there was the most activity—because the area where we were staying was more rural; it’s not like downtown, where you can see so many things. But we didn’t have time to go there, so we made the most of our time by walking around, taking photos, shopping, and reminiscing about old times from previous jobs.

Lo que nos quedaba más cerca es el centro de May Pen, y allí nos íbamos hasta la calle Main St, al centro comercial Hua Square que era donde había más movimiento, porque esa zona donde estabamos era más rural, no es como en el centro donde puedes ver muchas cosas, pero no nos daba tiempo para ir, así que aprovechábamos de caminar, tomar fotos, comprar y recordar viejos tiempos de trabajos anteriores.
