Hello, Splinterlands warriors!
Welcome back to another Battle of the Day. This time, I’m trying out one of the Archons that has caught my attention: Aurendrak.
I got this Archon from the Spin Wheel, and ever since I got it, I’ve still been experimenting with its abilities. I wanted to see what kind of rulesets would allow Aurendrak to really shine.
And this time, I found a pretty interesting combination: Void together with Weak Magic and Reverse Speed.
When the opponent came at me with Magic, I thought to myself, “Go ahead. Let’s see who can last longer.”
With the Weak Magic ruleset, Magic attacks have to deal with Armor first. Meanwhile, Aurendrak’s Void reduces the Magic damage received.
That’s why I chose Commander Slade as my tank.
I deliberately looked for a monster with strong Armor so that this combination would have an even greater impact. Behind him, I brought Night Reaper, Chuma Marandu, Steppe Stalker, and Kazira Vaelstrik.
The formation was simple: maintain a strong defense up front while the monsters with Armor and backline attacks helped clear out the enemy team.
I didn’t want to create an overly complicated strategy. This time, I just wanted to answer one question:
How annoying can Void be when combined with a team that has strong defenses?
As it turned out, the answer was pretty satisfying.
The opponent came in with the Cryptic Archon, which gave Poison to Joraki Venshiro and Steelshield Arbalest.
That was actually quite dangerous.
Poison in the backline can become a serious problem if it’s allowed to keep working. That’s why I was glad to have Chuma Marandu.
With its Sneak attack, Chuma immediately targeted the enemy backline. Little by little, the Poison threat was eliminated.
For me, this was one of the key moments of the battle.
Sometimes we focus too much on dealing with the tank in front, while the real threat is actually hiding in the back.
Chuma Marandu did its job very well this time.
On the other side, my opponent also brought Mystic Scaleweaver and Bellowmance.
With 2 Magic damage, Bellowmance should have been quite useful for putting pressure on my team.
But Aurendrak’s presence made those Magic attacks feel much less threatening.
This was where I really started to appreciate the benefits of Void.
It’s not that the opponent’s attacks became completely useless. But once the damage was reduced, and the attacks also had to get through Armor because of Weak Magic, it became much harder for them to deal significant damage.
Commander Slade was able to survive longer.
And the longer my tank stayed alive, the more time the monsters behind him had to do their job.

I still consider Aurendrak an Archon that I’m learning to use.
But this battle gave me one important impression: an Archon’s ability doesn’t always have to be used aggressively.
Void may look like a simple ability, but when the ruleset supports it, it can completely change the way we build our entire formation.
I even feel that Aurendrak doesn’t simply give Void to a single monster. It makes me rethink how Armor can be utilized.
And that’s one of the things I love about Splinterlands.
Sometimes a new card doesn’t feel powerful because of the card itself, but because we discover the right ruleset and combination for it.
If there’s one thing I learned, it’s this: don’t look at rulesets individually.
Weak Magic gives Armor an advantage.
Void reduces Magic damage.
Reverse Speed forces us to pay attention to Speed when determining the attack order.
All three rulesets then influence the way I choose my monsters.
For new players, I think this is important too. Don’t just ask, “Which Archon is the strongest?”
Instead, ask, “Which Archon fits today’s ruleset the best?”
I’m still testing Aurendrak in different situations. This battle was just one of my experiments, but the result was enough to make me believe that this Archon definitely has a place of its own. ⚔️🛡️
