Hello, Hive travelers!
It’s been a while since I’ve been around these parts. Today, I return with a journey that might seem ordinary to most people anywhere in the world, but for Cubans, it is usually nothing more than a dream.
In previous posts, I spoke about the feeling that might wash over any Cuban whose footsteps seek to leave a mark on a city as cosmopolitan as New York.
Today, I return with another journey, yet with that same feeling I described earlier. After all, New York sometimes seems like a country unto itself, and as such, it stirs up a multitude of emotions.
I repeat: this is the perspective of a Cuban who has no words to compare the experience of walking through his country with then encountering new lights—dreams undreamed, or perhaps dreamed after all...
Discovering unique cinemas and train terminals—nothing like the ones you’d find in Cuba—with their imposing neoclassical columns that make you wonder whether you’re about to set off on a journey or have already embarked on a magical one without taking more than a few steps...
For a Cuban, discovering people cultivating a garden at the foot of their apartment buildings here is something unthinkable. It is undoubtedly moving, and it evokes something that feels very familiar from back home.
Bicycles right there in the middle of the street, seemingly defying the metropolis's massive traffic.
Yes, I know this transport system exists in many cities, but knowing about it is one thing—seeing it firsthand is another...
As a true theater lover, the theater is another detail that leaves me breathless...
The cityscape in the distance—one of those places you see in movies or TV series and can now experience up close...
Seeing people walking like ants—unaware of those passing beside them and never considering a greeting, unlike the inhabitants of rural Cuba—is a saddening sight that makes one reflect on the alienation of modern life. Or perhaps we should simply accept it as the norm—a dynamic we have no right to judge. I’m not entirely sure...
For now, I keep dreaming and smiling as I bid you farewell until the next journey—but not without first sending each of you a hug of light!
Thank you very much for your visit!

No sé bien...
