Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great and welcome to another #Splinterlands post.
Alright, time for another #Splinterlands card spotlight!
Today I'm looking at a card that honestly looks pretty simple at first.
It doesn't have a huge amount of attack.
It doesn't have a bunch of abilities.
It doesn't look like some crazy legendary monster that is going to destroy the entire enemy team.
But, there is something really annoying about this little guy.
The card I'm talking about is, Flame Mephit.
Flame Mephit is a Rare Fire unit, and at max level 8 it has 2 abilities:
Flying: +25% chance to evade physical attacks.
Backfire: When an enemy unit misses, deals 2 physical damage to them.
And honestly, those two abilities work REALLY well together.
Because Flame Mephit basically wants the enemy to miss.
The first thing I noticed about Flame Mephit is the 2 mana cost.
That's actually pretty interesting.
A 2-mana card is usually pretty easy to fit into a lineup, especially when you have some mana left over and don't know what else to use.
But Flame Mephit isn't really a card that you use just because you have 2 mana available.
Its abilities are the real reason to pick it.
Flying gives it a 25% chance to evade physical attacks.
Now obviously, 25% doesn't mean it's going to dodge everything.
But when your opponent starts missing attacks, that's where the fun begins.
Because of Backfire, every time an enemy misses Flame Mephit, they take 2 physical damage.
Flying: +25% chance to evade physical attacks.
Let's talk about Flying first.
Flying gives Flame Mephit a +25% chance to evade physical attacks.
This is especially interesting against teams that rely heavily on melee or ranged attacks.
Obviously, magic attacks are a different story, so you can't just throw Flame Mephit into every matchup and expect it to survive forever.
But against physical attackers?
That extra chance to dodge can become really annoying.
And because Flame Mephit has Backfire, the dodge isn't just defensive.
It's also offensive.
That's probably my favorite thing about the card.
Usually when a card dodges an attack, you just think:
"Nice, I survived."
With Flame Mephit, it's more like:
"Nice, I survived AND you just took damage."
Backfire: When an enemy unit misses, deals 2 physical damage to them.
Now this is where Flame Mephit gets really interesting.
Backfire deals 2 physical damage to an enemy unit whenever that enemy misses its attack.
And 2 damage might not sound like much.
But imagine a battle that lasts several rounds.
If different enemies keep missing Flame Mephit, those Backfire hits can start adding up.
It's basically free damage.
You aren't manually attacking the enemy with Backfire.
You're just letting them attack you and hoping they miss.
And if they do, they get punished.
This creates a pretty funny situation where your opponent can actually hurt themselves by trying to attack Flame Mephit.
Another thing I really like about Flame Mephit is the mana cost.
2 mana.
That's it.
This makes the card very easy to experiment with.
You don't have to completely build your team around it.
You can simply find a little space in your lineup and see what happens.
It can also be useful in lower mana battles where every single mana point matters.
Sometimes you don't have enough mana for another big attacker.
Sometimes you just need a cheap unit.
And sometimes, you want to annoy your opponent.
Flame Mephit can definitely do that.
Personally, I'd be looking at the ruleset before using Flame Mephit.
If the battle favors physical attacks, I think the card becomes much more interesting.
Because that's when Flying has more chances to activate.
And when Flying activates, Backfire gets a chance to do its thing.
I also think it could be fun in lineups that already have other ways of making enemies miss.
The more missed attacks you can create, the more opportunities Flame Mephit has to trigger Backfire.
Obviously, I wouldn't depend entirely on it.
You still need the rest of your team to actually win the battle.
But as a cheap little extra threat?
I like it.
After looking at Flame Mephit, I think this is a really fun little card.
It isn't flashy.
It isn't some giant tank.
It doesn't have a huge attack.
But it has a very clear identity.
It wants the enemy to miss.
And when they do, Backfire makes them pay for it.
That's what I like about it.
The card is simple, but the combination of Flying + Backfire gives you an interesting way to punish physical attackers.
And the fact that it's only 2 mana makes it even easier to test in different battles.
Sometimes you don't need a huge legendary card to make an impact.
Sometimes you just need a tiny creature that makes your opponent regret missing.
Anyway thats it for today鈥檚 #Splinterlands grind. Please do give your reviews in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it :)
I'll be back with another one soon. So do follow me if you want to stay updated. Till then, Stay Happy and Stay Hydrated.
