The snowstorm hit us late Thursday night. We finally ventured out Saturday afternoon to the nearest Walmart. Approximately 36 hours after the first snow fell, I was amazed at what we saw. Mostly bread, cereal, snacks, sugar, water and frozen pizzas were gone. Oh, and by the way, get yourself a ski cap on the way out. There was still plenty of food. The trucks had just arrived and they were busy as beavers trying to restock. This is at most a 3 day weather event. Temperatures are in the 50's for Monday. This is more evidence of the need to PREP. In a worst case scenario (SHTF) it will be chaos. Also note, there was a lot of healthy, higher priced food left. The government suggests you have three days of provisions. In three days the grocery shelves will be bare. Then what? We have a wealth of storable food available, much is discarded. It should be a national mandate. Every citizen should store 3 weeks minimum food supplies. 3 months would be better. This would go so far to eliminate chaos in a crisis. You can easily store the most basic food items in the extra space in the average hall closet to last 3 weeks.
