This was a short ride today, but cycle feed posts don't need to be epic adventures. This was just a fun day ride with a few friends. Three of us met up around 1 at, you guessed it, Cafe Taza. I actually was supposed to go on a longer ride this morning that met up at a different coffee shop, but I was feeling a little beat from yesterday's ride to set off again this morning on faster paced ride. I was more in the mood for a casual ride around town.
We decided to go to Ted's Hot Dogs for lunch. I remember going to this place when I was just a kid in the 80s. Now, I hadn't been to Ted's in probably 10 years, partly because I was doing a vegetarian diet on and off and mostly because they only had locations in the suburbs. They finally opened a downtown location a few years ago. They are just a fast food place, but they cook they're hot dogs on a grill. That surely beats the roller dogs at 7-11. It had been so long that I forgot they had amazing onion rings, leading me to accidentally order fries. They have veggie dogs for any vegetarians out there.
The ride started off as a trip to the movies. Only Jamie wanted to go see a movie with me so the ride split off. We were going to go see Uncle Drew as I had already seen all the best movies using my MoviePass. Now it looks spectacularly bad but I'm actually surprised it got a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe it's not quite as bad as it looks. I'll have to try again later as we decided at the last minute to see Sorry to Bother You instead. I had already seen it, but Jamie had not. Obviously I loved this movie and was glad to turn a friend onto it. I was willing to pay for my ticket even though I'm used to getting movies free through my MoviePass subscription. They only let you see a movie once. I guess I could have lied about the movie I was going to see, but I think I still want to see Uncle Drew another time.
Well Jamie loved the movie and he even played music by the Coup on the ride back. The director of this movie is the vocalist from the Coup. I already wrote a review last week:
Movie Review: Sorry to Bother You (2018)
On the way back we decided to stop at the park for a rest. This was right next to the tennis courts where I noticed a sign for some sort of memorial tournament. The tournament was in memory of my former landlord. My old roommate had just mentioned he died last week. I can't say anything personally bad about him. I never really dealt with him much. I was mad that he bought the place from our previous landlord, which led to a series of events that had most of our roommates move out, and eventually me. Well, R.I.P. Al Litto.
Someday I should make a post about the Funeral Home, a punk house and venue that I once lived in. I guess it became kind of legendary in the metal, punk and hardcore scenes, with many touring bands wanting to play there rather than any legal venues in town.
