It must be hard to run a small business these days, let alone put up with annoying customers like me. But on the same hand, I think when you make promises, they need to be fulfilled - it's bad practice otherwise.

I jumped straight on this board bag as soon as I saw the mushrooms on it. Honestly, how could I possibly go past this baby? It had my name all over it. It's also a local company, and it promised fast shipping and a free wax and fin bag. I didn't need the fin bag, but the wax seemed like a nice bonus. I also got ten percent off for signing up for their newsletter. Cool.

Anyway, I ordered on the Saturday and paid the extra for the Express Post. I would have thought it'd arrive by Tuesday since it was only coming from the next town over. However, by Tuesday, I found out the expected delivery was Friday. Wait what? How can express take that long? What exactly was I paying for. So I sent them an email.

'Sorry, one of our staff members was sick on Monday so we didn't post it'.

Okay. Fine. I get it. But they have an obligation to fill orders, so why make promises they can't keep? And no mention of a refund for the extra I'd paid for postage. So I messaged back and asked about it. They issued the refund but very begrudingly. The excuse was they don't normall post on Mondays so it wouldn't have gone out til Tuesday anyway. Okay, but that wasn't explained at all when I ordered, and didn't they use the excuse that one of the staff members was sick?

I was happy I got my tenner back - that's two coffees, so it was worth asking.

When it finally arrived, I was stoked. The board cover is lovely. It's to cover my new 9'1 surfboard which was actually my fathers - he used it once and it's in immaculate condition. It's the same model as my blue board that I just sold in England (for $20 more than I paid for it, with an old leggie and my old board bag and quite a few pressure dings and a few little cracks on the rail - boards are EXPENSIVE in the UK, man!)

However, where the bloody hell was my free wax? Is this company having a laugh or what?

Free wax was actually a bonus - a block will cost you about $5 so it was no small promise. It really annoyed me that it wasn't in the bag, so I had to write back and tell them. I honestly don't think you should let things slide, even if it is a small local business. People shouldn't make promises they can't keep.

Am I wrong, or just being a difficult customer?

Oh, and vincentnijman@vincentnijman, you definitely don't have the monopoly on bad fashion choices with footwear... 🍄😂
