If you have met me before in the five years I've been posting on HIVE, you will know my love affair with Glastonbury Tor. The very first night Jamie and I spent together was at Glastonbury to see a gig, and I'll never forget seeing the tor in the moonlight as we approached town. I'd heard so much about it I couldn't believe it.
My sister in law dropped us off close to the bottom and we walked around the road to the entrance on the far side. We often go up via Ashwell lane but we knew that way would be too muddy given the rain. We sure are getting used to hills around here as it seemed quite easy to get to the top. It was lovely seeing the fresh laid hedges (an art in itself, and the hedgerows are an important part of the ecosystem here, homing wildlife) and this gorgeous mural on a house as well.
Famously there's also two wells at the bottom - we like the white well water over the red well water, which is quite iron-y. It feels like you are drinking the spirit of this place.
My heart just soars here. I used to come up here when I was feeling homesick for Australia's big skies. One can see all the way to the Bristol channel. The wind whips through and it's freezing cold but it's such an incredibly special and spiritual place.
On the way down we took another route - one we hadn't taken before actually. It was too muddy to go our secret way but it was interesting seeing this path and of course I had to keep turning back around to look at the tor.
From the Tor it's a short walk into town, but that's for another post. I'm really looking forward to coming back here for solstice - either here or Stonehenge, I'm not sure which. The whole place will be alive with people dancing and singing and celebrating the ancient land of Britain. There's not many places in the world like it.
With Love,
