Some friendships are toxic, some people are only close to you because of the benefits they can derive from you, and once that benefit is no more, they just disappear or start treating you differently from when they were gaining something from you. Having met a few in the course of my life has challenged me a lot. It is usually easy to detect a person with such behaviour, and when I do, I let them think that they are wiser than they are and let them do their thing. I have a friend who will mistreat and disrespect me all the time, both publicly and privately, but this didn’t stop me from being friends with this person. I have also had this friend who was so selfish and at the same time greedy, he would eat all that he owns, and it still comes to you and eat your portion as if he owns it. Their behaviour has never flinched me, not once, not ever, and we remain friends even till this day.
Simultaneously, I have met friends that are so lovely and kind, they will not wish to see you in need of anything, once you are challenged, they always profound solutions to your challenges, as a result of this, I understand that everyone is different due to their home up bringing and the environment to which they grew up in, I tried in my action to make them understand with my action, why it is important to be a better person. I am capable of living with anyone, as long as the person will not kill me, we will live peacefully for the entire time we have to, even until the present day.
Friendship should be built on trust and mutual respect for all parties involved. Everyone has different ideals and beliefs. A Friendship does not necessarily require sharing the same ideals and beliefs, as its major stronghold is understanding and mutual respect between the parties involved. However, there are some advantages of sharing the same beliefs, as it makes the friendship bond even stronger. People with the same ideals and beliefs may understand their selves better, as the saying goes, "Birds of the same feather flock together". It is easier to understand and respect each other when the parties share the same ideology.
A friendship that is characterised by the following qualities will always stand the test of time: honesty, mutual respect, dependability, and confidence, regardless of the differences between the individuals involved. Having these qualities is what is important to having a good friendship, and not if you have the same ideals or goals in life. Everyone has different plans and philosophies about life.
I believe that everyone should be given a chance to defend themselves. I usually give excuses for people who have made a mistake or exhibit some form of poor character. This is because everyone was raised differently, and you will not know what you would have done if you were in the same shoes as the other person.
