Good morning Hivers. How are you feeling today.
Today I want to share with you a type of photography that I have only recently begun exploring. Without leaving street photography behind, but driven by a strong desire to grow, I am venturing into documentary photography with a more critical eye. Getting to know the people I photograph, talking with them and, when possible, entering their homes and interacting with their environment opens up an entirely new universe of emotions and possibilities. It is still too soon to say whether I like it more or less than what I usually do, but here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone and learning a little more every day.
In this case the story revolves around a family of two, mother and son. She is an elderly woman disappointed with life and holding tightly to the memories of better days. They are the only ones who remain in Cuba. They live in a severely deteriorated house and struggle to survive. The lady was kind and cooperative from the beginning. Her son was more reserved and somewhat distrustful of my intentions with the photos, although after talking for a while he became more receptive and turned out to be a genuinely good person, even if he did not allow many photos.
These photographs represent something completely new for me. Unlike street photography, where we capture complete strangers, here every image carries a story, a reason and a very specific feeling. These are expressions that come from memories and emotions. A whole new universe that I am only beginning to discover.
The photos of the lady sitting were taken after she talked about her parents, who passed away in the eighties and who still remain alive in her memory with great affection. When we began talking about her grandchildren, who live far away in a foreign country and lead lives entirely disconnected from their grandmother, she could not hold back her tears. I admit that I still have much to learn because I was unable to take another photo at that moment.
I will continue exploring this kind of work regularly and, depending on the reception it receives on Hive, I will keep sharing more stories like this one. I hope you enjoy them.

Buenos d铆as Hivers. C贸mo se sienten hoy.
Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un tipo de fotograf铆a en el que llevo muy poco tiempo trabajando. Sin dejar la calle, pero con muchas ganas de superarme, estoy incursionando en la fotograf铆a documental con una mirada m谩s cr铆tica. Conocer a las personas que voy a fotografiar, conversar con ellas y, cuando es posible, entrar en sus casas e interactuar con su entorno abre un universo de emociones y posibilidades. A煤n es temprano para decir si me gusta m谩s o menos que lo que suelo hacer, pero ah铆 vamos, saliendo de la zona de confort y aprendiendo cada d铆a un poco m谩s.
En este caso se trata de una familia de dos, madre e hijo. Ella es una anciana decepcionada de la vida y aferrada a los recuerdos de tiempos mejores. Son los 煤nicos que quedan en Cuba. Viven en una casa muy deteriorada y luchan por salir adelante. La se帽ora fue muy amable y cooperativa. El hijo fue m谩s reservado al principio y desconfiaba un poco de mis intenciones con las fotos, pero despu茅s de conversar fue m谩s receptivo y result贸 ser un gran tipo, aunque no se dej贸 fotografiar demasiado.
Estas fotos representan algo completamente nuevo para m铆. A diferencia de la fotograf铆a callejera, donde retratamos a desconocidos, aqu铆 cada imagen tiene una historia detr谩s, un motivo, un sentimiento muy espec铆fico. Son expresiones que nacen de un recuerdo o de una emoci贸n concreta. Todo un universo nuevo que estoy empezando a descubrir.
Las fotos de la se帽ora sentada surgieron despu茅s de hablar de sus padres, fallecidos en la d茅cada de los 80 y a煤n muy presentes en su recuerdo. Cuando mencionamos a sus nietos, que viven lejos en un pa铆s extra帽o y llevan vidas ajenas a la de su abuela, no pudo contener las l谩grimas. Reconozco que todav铆a me falta mucho por aprender porque no fui capaz de hacer una foto m谩s en ese momento.
Voy a seguir explorando este tipo de trabajo con cierta frecuencia y, dependiendo de la acogida que tenga en Hive, seguir茅 compartiendo m谩s historias como esta. Espero que les gusten.
